Summary

  • Asmongold could face a 14-day Twitch ban for racist comments against Palestinians.
  • Use of alternative Twitch accounts to evade bans can result in further sanctions.
  • Asmongold's recent ban led to him stepping down from Stargorge Systems and One True King.

Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt’s Twitch ban could last 14 days, according to an industry insider. Asmongold’s alternative account Zackrawrr was recently banned from Twitch due to making racist comments against Palestinians, and his fans are currently wondering how long the ban will last, as the platform has not divulged this information.

Asmongold is currently one of the most popular streamers on Twitch, with over 3.5 million followers on his main account. He began his career in 2009 by making World of Warcraft videos on YouTube, and quickly rose in popularity, starting to use Twitch in 2011, and growing a considerably large community on the platform over the years. Earlier this week, Asmongold made racist remarks against Palestinians on his alt account Zackrawrr, claiming that they had “genocide that’s baked into their laws,” and were “terrible people.” He was greatly criticized for his comments and quickly banned from Twitch, as the platform’s Terms of Service forbids streamers from dehumanizing people or reinforcing negative stereotypes.

Twitch Bans, Then Unbans, PewDiePie

Twitch is mysteriously banning and unbanning PewDiePie's channel multiple times, and fans aren't sure what's going on.

Now, the streaming industry insider Rod “Slasher” Breslau claimed that Asmongold’s account will remain banned for 14 days, according to information he received from anonymous sources. While Asmongold’s main account was not banned, streamers who use a second account to evade bans are often banned again for escaping the previous sanction, so it’s likely that Asmongold will not risk streaming during the rest of the ban.

Asmongold Could Be Suspended From Twitch for 14 Days

While it’s not confirmed that Asmongold’s Twitch ban will last only two weeks, Breslau’s report on the ban’s duration sparked outrage among the community. In the comments of the post, it’s possible to see multiple people, including prominent leakers such as Shiina, accusing Twitch’s two-week bans of being a "vacation," and far from enough punishment.

Twitch Ban Creates Reverberating Effect For Asmongold

Outside of Twitch, the recent ban has already started to affect Asmongold. Soon after the incident, Asmongold published a 20-minute video on YouTube in which he apologized for his behavior. After that, Asmongold also stepped down from Stargorge Systems and One True King, two companies that he co-owns.

While this was perhaps the most noteworthy occasion in which this happened, this week’s incident was not the first time that Asmongold was banned from Twitch. Back in 2022, the streamer was banned for 24 hours due to using racist language, for example. Unlike the current case, however, Asmongold claims that he was innocent in this particular situation, as the racial slur was spoken in Diablo Immortal’s chat during the stream, not by him.
