Arnold Schwarzenegger's Predator was one of the biggest hits of 1987, but the famous actor has never returned to the franchise for more sci-fi goodness. Until now, that is.

There was no bigger star than Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1980s and early 1990s (apologies to Sylvester Stallone). Just look at his resume , and you'll see that the man was simply a hit machine: The Terminator, Conan, Total Recall, True Lies, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, and, of course, Predator. Sure, there were a few duds in there, films like Red Heat and Raw Deal, but all in all, Schwarzenegger was picking solid projects and making a ton of money. This makes it all the more odd that he didn't carry on with the Predator franchise. He has never been averse to sequels, as the Terminator, Conan, and Expendables franchises prove. For whatever reason, Arnold Schwarzenegger never felt it was necessary to return to the role of Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer. Well, that has changed.

At the San Diego Comic-Con on Friday afternoon, Predator franchise creative lead Dan Trachtenberg announced that a new version of the animated film Predator: Killer of Killers was set to hit Hulu in just a few hours, meaning you can load up the streaming service and check it out right now. Why would you want to watch a new cut of Predator: Killer of Killers? Because both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Glover, two beloved actors who haven't touched the franchise in decades, have returned to the fold for a brand new epilogue. Now, the two don't have any speaking lines, but they had to give Trachtenberg their blessing to use their likenesses for the animated film, which certainly isn't nothing.

Should They Bring Adrien Brody Back Too?

So, why is this such a big deal? Because Dan Trachtenberg clearly has a plan in place for the Predator franchise, and he is executing it masterfully. No one was expecting much from 2022's Prey, the Predator prequel that Trachtenberg directed for Hulu. After all, 2018's The Predator was a critical and commercial disaster that seemingly put the franchise on ice. But Prey was released to an astonishing critical reception and greater-than-expected viewership numbers for Hulu. The release of Prey went over so well, Trachtenberg was able to get two more films made off the back of its success: Predator: Killer of Killers and the upcoming Predator: Badlands.

Adding this (admittedly short) epilogue update to Killer of Killers ties the first two films in the franchise with the newer films, giving the franchise the weight it deserves. The first three Predator films are highly regarded in sci-fi/action circles and, if you ignore the abysmal Alien vs. Predator films, then 2018's The Predator is the only genuinely lackluster movie in the entire Predator franchise. Imagine if other classic sci-fi series like Alien and The Terminator could say that.
