While when a game receives a rating in South Korea isn't always indicative of an approaching announcement or launch, it's historically a positive sign. Armored Core is a FromSoftware franchise with even more history than the studio's Dark Souls style of RPGs. The first Armored Core was released in 1997 and more than 10 sequels, spin-offs, and expanded editions have been released since. Armored Core 6, which was announced at The Game Awards 2022, will be the first release in the series in 10years. It's also being made by a FromSoftware that's all but reinvented itself in the wake of its successes with Dark Souls, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Bloodborne.
When Armored Core 6 was announced this past December, it was given a tentative release window of 2023. FromSoftware is well known for its often substantial delays, however, so many fans feared 2023 would be an optimistic window. The South Korean video game ratings board has now reinvigorated hopes of a 2023 Armored Core 6 release date. It has given Armored Core 6 a rating of 12+, perhaps indicating that the game is in a state of development that should result in a comfortable 2023 release window.
The 12+ rating unfortunately doesn't convey much in terms of additional information regarding Armored Core 6. The rating was earned due to what the board describes as "Mild Violence" due to various weapon-based attacks and explosions. For those hoping for Dark Souls-like violence or brutality, this rating indicates otherwise.
One other interesting detail is a brief plot synopsis for Armored Core 6. It mentions that the protagonist of Armored Core 6 is a mercenary named 621 Raven. Ravens are a frequent term used throughout the Armored Core franchise. They're mercenaries and pilots of Armored Core mechs. The term also hasn't been used in more recent Armored Core releases, perhaps indicating Armored Core 6 will be a return to some of Armored Core's original ideas.
It's likely just a matter of time before FromSoftware shares more information regarding its plans for Armored Core 6. Some rumors claimed a launch between September and October was planned for Armored Core 6. If that's the case, a big reveal could be coming soon. The Summer Game Fest event in June, or Gamescom 2023 in August, would both be great opportunities for reveals. Don't be surprised if there's an announcement made even before then, though.
