Your Exploration Level is separate to both your player level and Operator levels in Arknights: Endfield. It's not linked to any sort of EXP system, and is instead raised by simply playing through the main story. However, there are a few roadblocks that might stop you from raising your Exploration Level later in the game, such as combat trials.
To help you understand everything there is to know about this system in Arknights: Endfield, we've explained everything from how to increase Exploration Level, to how to lower Exploration Level, to what Exploration Level actually affects.

What is Exploration Level in Arknights Endfield?
Exploration Level is a measure of both how far you are in the main story, and how strong your teams are in Arknights: Endfield. If you're familiar with other gacha games, then you'll see that Exploration Level is the equivalent of systems like World Level in Genshin Impact, SOL3 Phase in Wuthering Waves, and Equilibrium Level in Honkai: Star Rail.
More specifically, here's a summary of what changes as your World Level increases in Arknights Endfield:
- Enemy levels are increased
- The level cap of your Operators is increased
- Availability and daily refreshes of rare gatherables and minerals
- Energy Alluvium statuses
- Protocol Spaces
- RE-Crisis Stages
As you can see, there are lots of benefits to having a higher Exploration Level, but you just have to ensure your Operators are being properly leveled-up and built. Or else you might find that even common enemies in the wild are too tough to fight. To make sure you're ready for the biggest difficulty spikes, the game prepares a trial after Exploration Level 3 each time you reach the next Exploration Level.
How to Increase Exploration Level in Arknights Endfield
Initially, all you have to do is continue playing the main story to increase your Exploration Level in Arknights: Endfield. However, after reaching Exploration Level 3, you'll also need to complete a trial to ensure you're strong enough to bump up your Exploration Level. So it's very important to keep on top of building your best characters and best teams in Arknights: Endfield to continue with the main story and unlock better rewards.
How to Lower Exploration Level
If you find the game is getting too hard, even if you did pass a trial, don't worry — you can lower your Exploration Level by one every 24 hours from the main menu (just look for the "Exploration Level" text above your user profile at the bottom). You can return to your highest achieved Exploration Level any time after doing so, but must wait another 24 hours after this if you wish to lower it again.
Lowering your Exploration Level will also lower your maximum Operator level cap again, but Operators whose levels have already exceeded this lowered cap will not be affected.
