Essences are one of the things players can use to increase the power of their Operators in Arknights Endfield. These are equippable items that improve the stats of your characters' weapons, increasing their inherent skills based on the ones available to each individual essence. In a way, using an Essence is similar to getting a copy of a weapon, making these incredibly valuable for all Endfield players. Thankfully, getting Essences is quite easy, though there's going to be a lot of luck involved in the process.

How to Get Essences in Arknights Endfield

You can get Essences by clearing Energy Alluvium encounters. The enemies that spawn here have a chance to drop Essences, but once you increase your Exploration Level, you'll unlock Severe Energy Alluvium encounters, which will let you spend Sanity to get guaranteed high-rarity Essence drops. Think of these like the standard Relic/Artifact-style gearing system in other gacha games.

What sets Essences apart from gear items in other games is that they don't exactly provide the usual assortment of stats like ATK or Crit RATE. Instead, they upgrade weapon perks, including your weapons' signature traits.

Pre-Engraving Stats

Essences drop with random perks, but you can shave off some of that RNG by Pre-Engraving stats. To do this, interact with any Severe Energy Alluvium rift, then select the Pre-Engrave button right above the Start button on the lower-right side of the screen. This will open up a window where you can select the stats that you want your Essences to potentially have.

You need to select three different Attribute Stats and either a Secondary or Skill stat. Any Essence you get from the encounter will have one of the three selected Attribute stats, the Secondary/Skill stat that you picked, and one final perk that's completely random.

How Do Essences Work in Endfield?

Equipping an Essence increases the levels of your weapon's perks by a set amount. Think of it like upgrading the Potential of your weapon, except you can upgrade all three weapon perks at the same time.

To equip an Essence:

  1. Open the Character Screen and pick an Operator.
  2. Tap the Weapon tab.
  3. Tap the Essence button next to the Potential button.
  4. Select the Essence you want to equip.

You'll notice that your Essences have different perks on them, like Attack Boost, Arts DMG Boost, Flow, Twilight, and so on. When you equip an Essence, all of its perks will transfer over to your Operator's equipped weapon, increasing their value by whatever's on the Essence itself. This will not give your weapons any extra perks. Essences will only boost existing ones.

Ideally, the Essences you have should increase all the available perks on your weapon, but there will be exceptions. You'll have to do the math yourself and see if one Essence is worth picking over the other.
