New rumors have suggested that Dragon Ball FighterZ developer Arc System Works may be working on a new game, set to launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. The Japan-based studio has gained a reputation within the gaming community for its litany of stellar fighting game releases, while also acting as a publisher for plenty of other games. Arc System Works has become particularly well-known for its work with other franchises, including the previously-mentioned Dragon Ball FighterZ and Granblue Fantasy: Versus. Now, a new game may be on the way from the prolific developer.

Recent weeks have seen plenty of exciting announcements revolving around the next major home console from Nintendo. Nintendo held its big introduction stream for the Switch 2 in early April, showing off new features with the updated hardware and plenty of games. As part of the showcase, Nintendo showed off many games from third-party developers as well, including FromSoftware, Square-Enix, and Capcom among others. Arc System Works may be looking to throw its hat in the Switch 2 ring now with an exclusive new game.

As reported by MyNintendoNews, a new update shared by prominent leaker X0XLeak is teasing a new project coming soon from Arc System Works. The leak suggests that the Dragon Ball FighterZ developer is currently working on a new game referred to as "Codename Watari," set to debut as an exclusive game for the Switch 2. Arc System Works is reportedly aiming for a November 25 release window for the rumored game, with the game said to be in development using Unreal Engine 5.4. No details were given about whether the game will be original to Arc System Works or adapting a new franchise.

Arc System Works Reportedly Working on Switch 2 Exclusive

A potential new game from Arc System Works on the Switch 2 could look to take the developer in a variety of different directions. While many fans will know the studio for its stunning fighting games, the developer has also worked with WayForward to publish the popular River City Girls beat-em-up games in Japan. Arc System Works also owns the rights to the iconic Double Dragon franchise, with the studio currently working with developer Yuke's on Double Dragon Revive.

Arc System Works joining the Switch 2 library would bring another iconic third-party developer to the platform, with plenty of exciting games on the way. Gearbox Software previously revealed that the highly-anticipated Borderlands 4 will be launching on Switch 2 on its release date in September. The Switch 2 is also expected to receive multiple ports of popular current-gen games like Elden Ring, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Street Fighter 6 among others. Arc System Works will look to wow fans once again with its next major release on the Switch 2.
