ARC Raiders' Scrappy has become one of gaming's most beloved companions as of late, and one player just pitched a fun way for fans of the extraction shooter to bring him into raids with them. A recent post by Reddi user theBreG shows the backside of a raider wearing a backpack with a window on it, through which a cozy Scrappy can be seen hitching a ride. The ultimate idea is a cosmetic that would allow players to take their scrap-fetching companion Topside, even if he were only there in spirit.

As a live-service game, ARC Raiders regularly adds new outfits to its store for players to purchase using real money, and fans seem to think the "Scrappy Capsule" — or "Scrapsule" as some call it — would be a worthwhile addition. The sentiment of BreG's post, titled "The only cosmetic I would pay hard cash for," is echoed in the comments, with many fans emphatically agreeing that they would love to see not only an outfit like it made available but for the opportunity to have their beloved rooster at their side as they travel to the surface.

ARC Raiders Scrappy Hakan

Video game companions often become popular merely for the personality they are known to add to an experience, but some of those companions are so helpful that having them around is not only beneficial from an emotional standpoint but also advantageous from a practical, gameplay point of view. ARC Raiders' Scrappy just happens to fit into both of those categories, offering charm, convenience, and even customization all in one package, giving players a sense of belonging and simultaneously keeping their stash filled with useful items.

There are plenty of materials for players to find and utilize in ARC Raiders, but some of those materials are basic needs that almost any crafting recipe in the game requires. However, sometimes those basic materials don't justify occupying a space in the player's backpack when there are rare materials and items to loot. That's where Scrappy comes in. As players head Topside for another round, Scrappy also scours the surface for those basic materials, which players can then collect once they return to Speranza. In this way, the lovable rooster acts as a passive income system of sorts, helping players stay on their feet should they run low on ARC Raiders' most necessary materials.

Here is everything Scrappy passively collects in ARC Raiders:

  • Metal Parts
  • Fabric
  • Plastic Parts
  • Chemicals
  • Rubbert Parts
  • Assorted Seeds

Naturally, that has led to Scrappy becoming a beloved companion for many ARC Raiders players, though that isn't the only thing. According to the devs at Embark Studios, the original idea for a resource-producer was something utilitarian like a robot or a drone, but the idea for a rooster to fill that role came up in a hilarious moment of inspiration. A real rooster named Hakan, among many other chickens, wandered into a dev's parents' house during a Zoom meeting they were having. Hakan then became the model for Scrappy, ARC Raiders' resource-gathering rooster.

Players Have Ideas About How the Scrapsule Could Work Mechanically

ARC Raiders Scrappy

While the idea of taking Scrappy into a raid sounds fun, there would naturally be some caveats to a "Scrapsule" outfit in ARC Raiders. Since Scrappy is functionally a passive-income machine who collects materials while players are out on a raid, to have him not only present with the player throughout the round but also kept inside a backpack the entire time wouldn't allow him to fulfill his purpose, but that problem could perhaps be solved with a disclaimer stating that Scrappy cannot collect materials while the outfit is worn. Another concern, however, is Scrappy's safety when his Raider is downed, but that hasn't stopped players from coming up with solutions.

Reddit user Wise_Impact_7990 states in a top-rated comment on the post, "only if scrappy is safely ejected when ur downed." Replies to that comment mention humorous instances of the backpack actually being "a rocket that sends him back to Speranza" or instead of the Raider flare going off when a player is downed, Scrappy is sent flying in a "little ejection capsule." Of course, ARC Raiders' Speranza is technically down, not up, but players even mentioned that perhaps the Scrapsule could be a drill instead. Needless to say, it seems Scrappy's biggest fans will stop at nothing to see the beloved rooster along for the ride during their next raid.

While it seems unlikely that Embark will add an outfit like this to ARC Raiders' store in the future, simply due to the implied mechanics of the skin, that doesn't necessarily mean it's impossible. For now, it's little more than a dream, but Embark has already proven it is willing to listen to fans if they cry loud enough.
