December 7 is a big day for Apex Legends fans. Not only does it begin a new Raiders collection event, where those dedicated to Wattson can pick up her heirloom if they so choose, but Winter Express is returning for the “holo-days.” Winter Express is arguably one of the best Apex Legends LTMs, and many have been waiting for it since the calendar flipped.
There have been some who are less ecstatic about the event, though. Many players have complained about Apex Legends’ design for Wattson’s Heirloom, comparing it to a toy gun, price checker, and so on. Many Wattson mains have been waiting for this for quite a while (Wattson is the season 2 character), and so it’s likely many will still try to get it, even if it’s not ideal. Nonetheless, someone has done something a bit unique with its revealed animation.
As seen below, Twitter user @mokeysniper has shared the official Wattson Heirloom animation, as released by Respawn. They’ve edited it, however, to showcase gameplay of Doom on Wattson’s screen, jokingly asking if Wattson is playing Doom. It’s a pretty unique thing and only really doable on Wattson’s heirloom; no other character has an Heirloom with any sort of display screen.
For the uninitiated here, the joke is about all the weird things Doom has been made playable on before. It’s been genuinely made playable in games like Minecraft, Sonic Mania, Age of Empires 2, and more, while devices like a pregnancy test, a karaoke machine, a thermostat, and many, many more. It’s such a popular thing to do to the 1993 release that it may as well be a pastime in the Doom community to get it playable on the oddest things out there.
Unlike these, of course, Doom isn’t actually playable in Apex Legends, but it would be hilarious if it was. Since Wattson is a defensive main, locking down a building or area is a typical go-to strategy, but if not timed right or in a good defensive area without a lot of traffic (Kings Canyon’s Bunker comes to mind, which many intentionally avoid), it would be hilarious to whip it out and play Doom during a match of Apex Legends. Not the best thing when a team does come, of course, but hilarious nonetheless.
Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
