One Apex Legends player appears to have a debt that won't be resolved anytime soon. Apex Legends remains known as one of the most popular games to come out of the late 2010's battle royale boom. As one of the most popular titles by Respawn Entertainment, the game still pulls in a large audience, although a newer wave of hero shooters such as Concord and even The First Descendant appear to be fresh competition.

As this season of Apex Legends changes things around, one unlucky player known on Reddit as Lunatic1422 shares that they have been burdened with a debt. Lunatic1422 talks about how, during a family event, their cousin spent some of their money on a bundle of 6,700 Apex Coins. Because it was an unexpected purchase way outside Lunatic1422's budget, they reached out to customer service and got a refund. Although they got their money back, a debt remains.

Why Did This Apex Legends Player End Up with Debt?

It appears that because Lunatic1422's cousin immediately went ahead and used the Apex Coins for content in the game. The currency is considered as something that is still used, so refunding the coins leaves a debt on the account. There are some ways to obtain Apex Coins for free, but it doesn't seem like that will be of use to this gamer anymore. Lunatic1422 may just have to spend the rest of their time in-game with that debt. Regardless, Season 22 of Apex Legends will make Apex Coins largely obsolete anyway.

Once this season of Apex Legends ends, the way players interact with the game will fundamentally change. The ability to purchase the Battle Pass through Apex Coins will be removed. Players will have no choice but to spend money if they want Battle Passes, and these changes have provoked a shift in the Apex Legends' player-base's sentiment. Now that the game is 5 years old, Apex Legends has a smaller player base, and it seems like Respawn Entertainment and EA are still trying to find ways to maintain its profitability.
