Summary

  • EA is reportedly exploring a monthly subscription for Apex Legends, similar to Fortnite's model, potentially offering rewards and in-game currency.
  • Season 23 of Apex Legends introduced changes, focusing on core gameplay and reworking Lifeline, but no new Legends were added.
  • The subscription has not been officially announced at the time of this writing.

A recent survey indicates that EA could be planning to add a monthly subscription to Apex Legends. Other popular live service games such as Fortnite already have a monthly subscription service, so it’s not surprising that EA is considering this option for Apex Legends.

Developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by EA, Apex Legends was released in 2019. The popular battle royale hero shooter is set in the same universe as the Titanfall franchise, and it quickly became a big hit. Apex Legends is widely recognized as one of the best EA games, and according to Statista, it currently has over 170 million registered users, with a sizable chunk of them still playing every month.

Not every season of Apex Legends was built the same. These are the best of the bunch.

Insider Gaming spotted a new survey that indicates that Apex Legends could introduce a monthly subscription service soon. This survey, which was sent to multiple Apex Legends players, asks whether the fanbase would be interested in a “monthly subscription” that could give special rewards and in-game currency. This service could likely work similarly to Fortnite Crew, which was started in 2020. By paying $11.99 monthly, Fortnite players gain access to an exclusive cosmetic pack, Fortnite’s Premium Battle Pass, and some V-Bucks, as well as occasional additional rewards.

EA Could be Planning a Monthly Subscription for Apex Legends

Considering that Apex Legends has a strong user base, this could be a way for EA to maximize its profits with the popular hero shooter. In any case, while the subscription service is definitely being considered by EA, it was not confirmed at the time of this report. Also, it’s unclear what exactly it could offer to gamers, although in-game currency and exclusive cosmetics are the most likely picks.

It’s not surprising to see EA trying to monetize Apex Legends even more. Earlier this year, EA revealed that Apex Legends has earned over $3.4 billion since its release. However, the company also acknowledged that it had failed to hit monetization goals earlier this year, which could explain the push to get more cash from Apex Legends players.

Apex Legends has recently started its Season 23, which brought many changes to the game. In a push to cater to old-school players, the new season stripped away some of the game’s most complex elements, focusing on the core gameplay with new game modes like Launch Royale. In a similar vein, the new season did not bring any new Legends, but it reworked Lifeline, one of the original characters of the game.
