Summary

  • The Hunt mode has been adjusted to an LTM due to player feedback, allowing regular Trios and Duos matches during the event.
  • Many Apex Legends players expressed dissatisfaction with The Hunt's bounty gimmick.
  • While the Inner Beast Collection Event continues with new cosmetics, some players also criticize the skins as low-effort recolors.

Respawn Entertainment has made The Hunt an LTM for the remainder of the Inner Beast Collection Event in Apex Legends. This change is significant as the mode was previously a Takeover, replacing traditional Trios and Duos playlists in Apex Legends during the event.

Respawn's battle royale game has hosted numerous limited-time events over the years, with many of these called Collection Events. In addition to bringing new cosmetics and the chance to obtain heirlooms in Apex Legends, these events often bring new game modes, offering a twist on the battle royale experience. Most recently, the developer introduced a mode known as The Hunt, adding a bounty system to the traditional gameplay. Despite some of these LTMs becoming hits with players, The Hunt has failed to impress many in the community.

As a result of player criticism, Respawn Entertainment has made a significant adjustment to the Inner Beast Collection Event. Roughly halfway through the event, the developer moved The Hunt from a Takeover to an LTM. This change allows players to queue for regular Trios and Duos matches, as The Hunt has been moved to its own dedicated LTM playlist.

Why Are Apex Legends Players Unhappy With The Hunt?

The change from a Takeover to an LTM is good news for players who are frustrated with the event. As a result of this change, players who enjoy the standard Apex Legends experience now have the option to avoid the event-themed mode entirely. While The Hunt aimed to provide a fresh feel to the battle royale experience, many players had become discontent with the bounty gimmick. Specifically, the community complained of increased third parties due to the new Prey squad dynamic. Furthermore, this often resulted in matches where the majority of the lobby died before the second ring had even closed, making end-game scenarios less exciting.

While Respawn has altered the role of The Hunt, the Inner Beast Collection Event continues as scheduled, running until March 19. In addition to the LTM, the developer introduced a variety of limited-time cosmetics for Apex Legends characters like Bloodhound, Rampart, and Caustic. Octane even received a new variation of his Butterfly Knife heirloom called Octane’s Prototype. Unfortunately, these skins have also received criticism from the Apex Legends community, with some accusing them of being low-effort recolors of previously released skins. Furthermore, some had hoped that a new Legend would receive an heirloom instead.

Nevertheless, it appears that Respawn Entertainment is listening to player criticism. Besides this change to The Hunt, the developers previously made changes to the Wingman in Apex Legends, along with adjustments to several Legends. With more events likely coming later in Season 20, time will tell how fan feedback factors into the new content.
