The Apex Legends and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth event is finally live, and there’s a lot of new content and exciting rewards for players to dive into and unlock. From completing daily challenges and earning Gil to wielding the power of the Buster Sword R2R5, there’s much to explore. This event brings together two gaming legends to create the first-ever Crossover event for fans. Here’s what players can expect from the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth event.
Apex Legends Fans Are Not Happy About FF7 Event Microtransactions
Apex Legends fans are upset with the game's new Final Fantasy-themed event, which introduces some surprisingly predatory microtransaction practices.
What is the Apex Legends X Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Event?
The Apex Legends X FF7 event, known as Takeover, replaces unranked BR. It will run from January 9th to 30th, with 36 Event items to collect throughout. The event has four tiers; each tier has special cosmetics, weapons, and skins for players to collect. Players who collect all 36 Event items will get the One-Winged Angel Deathbox.
The Apex Legends X FF7 event features exciting content, as shown below:
Buster Sword R2R5
Throughout the Takeover event, players can find the Buster Sword R2R5 as ground loot on the map. The sword can block attacks and deal light and heavy attacks to opponents. Players can also use the Buster Sword R2R5 to dash and close in on enemies. The sword has a Limit Break feature that fills up when players dash, deal damage, and attack. The more a player blocks attacks, dashes, and deals damage, the quicker the meter fills up. Obtaining the Buster Sword R2R5 is an excellent way to annihilate opponents with a powerful weapon and secure victory.
Players who don’t find the Buster Sword R2R5 as a loot drop can collect it in Care Packages scattered across the map. Note that the Buster Sword R2R5 won’t be coming to the in-game store and will no longer be available once the event ends. So, players should obtain it while they can.
Materia Hop-Ups
While hunting for the Buster Sword R2R5, players should look for Materia Hop-Ups, which are found in the green Cactuar-themed loot ticks spread across the map. Materia Hop-Ups add effects to a player’s gun and come in 5 different colors, each providing a specific impact when applied to a firearm. Here’s what each colored Materia Hop-Up does:
| Color | Effect |
|---|---|
| Blue Materia - HP Absorb | Every time a player deals damage, they heal themselves. |
| Purple Materia - Crit Rate Damage Up | Buffs the damage of critical shots, like headshots. |
| Red Materia - Summon | Summons Nessie to attack opponents. Nessie has its own Buster Sword to deal damage to enemies. |
| Green Materia - Lightning | Emits a shock nova when players reload an empty gun, dealing damage and slowing down enemies nearby. |
| Yellow Materia - Assess | Shows the enemy's current health when they take damage. |
Iconic Legend Skins
There will be six Iconic Legend Skins available via the store. They include:
- Flower Girl - Horizon Skin
- 7th Heaven Skirmisher - Wraith Skin
- Sector 7 Savior - Newcastle Skin
- HACKER: 1st Class - Crypto Skin
- Kupo Power - Wattson Skin
- Materia Girl - Valkyrie Skin
Apex Legends X FF7 Event Packs and Items
During the Takeover event, players can get special packs that come with various goodies like Iconic skins for Newcastle and Horizon and sticker sets. The first pack is free, but players must purchase the other packs for special rewards. Players can purchase a one-time four-pack, which guarantees they get a Legendary or Iconic Item.
The 36 items are randomly awarded to players via the event packs, and there will be no duplicates. Players don’t have to collect all 36 items, but doing so ensures they get the One-Winged Angel Deathbox and other amazing rewards. Similarly, there are rewards for achieving certain milestones:
- Collect 5 Items - Epic Fighting Foul (Epic Holo)
- Collect 10 Items - Chocobo Square (Epic Universal Frame)
- Collect 30 Items - Victory Pose Emote (Legendary)
Here’s a list of all the 36 Event items players can collect:
| Tier | Item |
|---|---|
| Mythic | Buster Sword R5 Melee Cosmetic |
| Iconic |

| Legendary |

| Epic |
