Respawn Entertainment has released a surprise update for Apex Legends that targets inconsistent audio issues. While Apex Legends players knew a mid-season patch for Season 22 was coming to address various community complaints, the audio patch caught many off guard. However, players are debating how big of an impact it made on gameplay.
As one of the most popular battle royales on the market, Apex Legends players enjoy many things about the game. That said, the community often highlight multiple issues hampering the gameplay experience, such as Apex Legends cheaters. Another frequent criticism involves the game’s audio, or lack thereof, in some instances. Many players who have played the game know the frustration of running into an enemy with no footstep audio preceding their appearance. However, a new fix has arrived.
Apex Legends Character That Was Buffed in Season 22 Could Already Be Getting a Nerf
Season 22 of Apex Legends saw various changes come to the playable Legends, but one change may already be at risk of getting reversed.
In a recent tweet, Respawn revealed that an update fixing audio issues had been released for the battle royale. According to the developer, the in-game audio changes were a result of player feedback regarding enemy audio in Apex Legends. Following this update, the developer said footstep audio should be more reliable for players, potentially reducing the number of unexpected encounters in the game. When posting the news to social media, Respawn asked the game’s community to sample the changes and provide additional feedback as necessary.
Apex Legends Releases Update to Fix Footstep Audio
Even though it might take some time to figure out the full extent of the latest audio update, the community has already begun sharing their thoughts. While some players were happy to see much-requested changes implemented in Season 22 of Apex Legends, others were less enthused. Many users on the Apex Legends subreddit claimed the audio seemed largely the same, with some citing in-game examples of being unable to ascertain the position of opponents based on the sound of footsteps. In addition, some wanted Respawn to take things further by removing teammate footstep audio from the game, claiming it only made it harder to know what was going on.
Understandably, players want the game’s audio to be fixed. Apex Legends is a game that puts an emphasis on positioning and knowing where opponents are can be the difference in winning or losing a fight. Unreliable footstep audio can detract from this by allowing players to catch the opposing team unaware, giving them an advantage in a skirmish. Hopefully, these recent changes will alleviate some of the issues players are facing, but the initial response from the community is somewhat concerning.
While time will tell if these audio changes turn out to be impactful, Respawn has introduced other content to the game with the recent mid-season update for Season 22 of Apex Legends. As part of the new Space Hunt event, a variety of cosmetics, including the “Serpent’s Sting” universal melee item, were added to the game. In addition, the event added a new mode called Knockout, which sees teams get knocked out based on score and features several rounds.
