Apex Legends just launched season 11 featuring a new character in Ash, a new map in Storm Point, and a new weapon in the CAR SMG. Players are still learning the ropes of all the new content, and it’ll take a bit to iron out a clear meta. But, many players can agree that Ash and the CAR SMG are strong.

Of course, just because season 11 just launched doesn’t mean some aren’t already looking to the future. EA itself recently commented on Apex Legends after it and FIFA led the company to one of its biggest quarters yet, describing the battle royale game as a global franchise to last another ten years. This, in turn, led Redditor je36yt to create a mock-up of Apex’s character selection screen and what it may look like in ten years.

Obviously, the character selection box is huge. In ten years or so, je36yt’s mock-up suggests there will be 52 characters in the game, and that box eats up the whole screen. Perhaps Respawn Entertainment will take the real thing in another direction, but 52 legends would definitely make Apex Legends a different battle royale game than it currently is.

Based on the game's typical release patterns, there would also CRUDELY be 10 more maps and 26 more guns added to Apex Legends. That’s hard to imagine now, but if it keeps up, it wouldn’t be impossible. The reaction to this idea is a mixture of excitement and a little bit of fear, which is understandable as it’s a big change (but one, obviously, happening over the course of ten years).

Some think having this many characters one day would be awesome, as whenever the game hits 60 characters, it would be theoretically possible to fill an entire match with completely different characters. That sounds like it would be a fun LTM for Apex Legends. On the other hand, some responses were worried about power creep in Apex Legends—that essentially newer characters, to keep up the hype, have to be stronger and stronger, outweighing past characters.

This is something fans can see already: comparing Valkyrie, Seer, and Ash to Octane, Wattson, and Crypto is like looking at two different games sometimes. The best part is that ten years would be a lot of time to prevent this from happening, but either way, it’s hard to say for sure if Apex does have that kind of staying power (as few games actually last ten years). As such, fans can only wait and see what’s coming in the new season, next year, and remained focused on the more immediate here and now.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
