Antstream Arcade Coming to PlayStation on September 6

The Best War Games can now exclusively reveal the date of Antstream Arcade's PlayStation debut: September 6. On that date, the service will become available on both the PS4 and PS5. PlayStation users will be able to subscribe to it for $39.99 a year, or purchase lifetime access for a one-time fee of $99.99, consistent with Antstream Arcade's pricing on other platforms.

The cloud service will bring hundreds of retro games to PlayStation consoles, with the majority of its catalog covering titles released between the '80s and early aughts. Its debut on Sony's consoles is scheduled to take place shortly following the first anniversary of Antstream Arcade's Xbox launch. The retro gaming service is currently also available on mobile devices via the Google Play Store and iOS App Store, as well as Samsung TVs. Access to its original PC version can be purchased directly from Antstream's official website or the Epic Games Store. The service has also been listed as "coming soon" on Steam since October 2022.

Antstream Arcade is officially framing its PlayStation launch as a continuation of its efforts to preserve gaming classics.

Antstream Arcade is officially framing its PlayStation launch as a continuation of its efforts to preserve gaming classics. The importance of that mission cannot be overstated, not least because the vast majority of old-school games are no longer available commercially nowadays. The biggest chunk of Antstream Arcade's present-day library comprises Commodore 64 games, of which there are currently 358. The ZX Spectrum and arcade machines are the next two most-represented platforms on the service with 351 and 293 games, respectively. The Antstream Arcade content catalog expands on a fairly regular basis, with new titles usually being added every week. Game removals are less frequent, although they do happen a few times per year.

Antstream Arcade catalog changes typically happen every week. A full and up-to-date list of all available games can always be found on antstream.com/games.

The ability to play hundreds of classic games going back over four decades is not the only selling point of Antstream Arcade. The service also offers features such as global leaderboards, community challenges, and achievements. With only ten straightforward trophies, the PlayStation version of Antstream Arcade should be fairly easy to get platinum for those who care to do so.
