From playing just the opening hour of Another Crab's Treasure, it's clear that the game was made with a whole lot of passion, and that only becomes more evident the more players progress through the charming Indie Soulslike. Lines of dialogue will playfully mock some classic Soulslike conventions and tropes, showing the developer's passion for the genre as a whole. The game's responsive combat shows how passionate the developer was about getting the fundamentals right. And the game's vibrant world and unrelenting charm show just how much passion the developer had for its own creations.

But while passion clearly runs throughout every facet of Another Crab's Treasure, there's one area in which it's overtly obvious, and that's its Easter eggs. During the course of their 15-20 hour adventure, players will be able to find a plethora of Easter eggs in Another Crab's Treasure, many of which reference franchises that have clearly inspired this Soulslike.

The Best Easter Eggs in Another Crab's Treasure

A Suspicious Shell

Some of the biggest and best Easter eggs in Another Crab's Treasure can be found very easily, and can be found fairly early on in the game. After defeating the Duchess and leaving the Shallows, players will reach a delightfully strange metropolis known as New Carcinia. If players make their way to the shop in the city's Upper Crust, they'll be able to find a handful of references to other popular franchises, all appearing as various purchasable items in the shop.

The first Easter egg players will spot is a wearable shell based on the now-iconic Red Crewmate from Among Us. Named "Impostor," this shell's description reads "A plush visage of a legendary traitor," and comes with a unique Shell Spell ability that allows players to vanish in a cloud of ink.

Some Familiar Costumes

The New Carcinia shop is home to a few more Easter eggs, this time taking the form of unlockable costumes for player-character Kril. The first of these is an outfit simply titled "Mr. Kril," which gives the crab a pair of slacks, an accompanying belt, and a pale blue shirt, a clear reference to SpongeBob SquarePants' Mr. Krabs. This shop also sells a "Cult Leader" outfit, which gives Kril a sheep-like head of hair, a black crown, and a red shawl, referencing 2022's Indie darling Cult of the Lamb.

Later on in the game, players will come across another Easter egg outfit, this one referencing Dark Souls' sun-worshipping Knight Solaire. This is just one of many FromSoftware references in Another Crab's Treasure, with the game paying homage to the incredibly influential developer a good few times, including naming its open-world area "The Sands Between," a reference to Elden Ring's Lands Between.

A Home Fit for a Sponge

Before launch, Another Crab's Treasure drew a lot of comparisons with SpongeBob SquarePants, mostly due to its vibrant and colorful depiction of undersea life. Thankfully, it seems as though developer Aggro Crab is happy with the comparisons, with Another Crab's Treasure being home to several SpongeBob references. On top of the aforementioned Mr. Krabs outfit, players can also find SpongeBob's iconic pineapple house, though here it's made of glass.

A QR Code at The Player's Expense

In various corners of New Carcinia, players can find a QR code plastered on top of some environmental objects. If players scan this code, then they'll be immediately taken to the YouTube video "You got Coconut Malled," a Rick Roll-like video that loudly proclaims they've been "Coconut Malled," and that they should share the video with their friends to "Totally Coconut Mall" them.

As Kril the hermit crab, you’ll need to wear the trash around you as shells to withstand attacks from enemies many times your size. Embark on an epic treasure hunt to buy back your repossessed shell, and discover the dark secrets behind the polluted ocean.

TRASH OR TREASURE?
In this undersea society, trash is not only a way of life, but a valuable resource, used for everything from fashion to firearms. But with the presence of trash comes a mysterious infection known as the Gunk, which could spell doom for the entire ocean.

LEARN FROM NATURE
As Kril explores the ocean, he'll gain a variety of Umami Techniques—powerful attacks learned from the denizens of the seas. Punch your enemies with the overwhelming might of a Mantis Shrimp, ensnare them with the horrifying Bobbit Worm, and much more.

UNEXPLORED DEPTHS
The ocean goes deeper than one can imagine. Fight your way through kelp forests, coral reefs, sand castle cities, and even the unfathomable darkness of the deep-sea trenches, all in the name of getting back your prized shell.
