There are a lot of things that make Another Crab's Treasure unique in the sea of Soulslikes available in 2024. One of the features that sets the game apart is the Adaptations system, which gives Kril unique abilities that can be used even without a shell.

Another Crab's Treasure: Best Early Game Skills To Unlock ASAP

Kril's skill tree in Another Crab's Treasure has a few unlocks that players should grab early on in the game for the smoothest playthrough.

These abilities are useful both in and out of combat – the Mantis Punch Adaptation will deal tons of damage to an enemy, but it will also destroy glowing purple cubes and other environmental obstacles. To unlock Adaptations, and upgrade the power of these unique abilities, Another Crab's Treasure players have to find and defeat a semi-hidden boss.

How To Unlock Adaptations

Another Crab's Treasure Combat Tips Duchess Boss Fight

Adaptations can be earned in a variety of ways in Another Crab's Treasure, but most players will unlock their first after beating the first major boss, Duchess Majista. Upon defeat, the Duchess will grant Kril the Royal Wave Adaptation.

There are eight total Adaptations in Another Crab's Treasure, and six of the eight are unlocked by beating major bosses. There are two exceptions: the Urchin Toss and the Bobbit Trap Adaptations. These two can only be earned by speaking with a specific NPC and going to a specific area, respectively.

  • Bobbit Trap: Look for Bobbits on top of a sea shelf in the western Sands Between. The Bobbit Trap adaptation is found on top of this cliff.
  • Bubble Bullet: Beat the Creviche Sisters
  • Electrocute: Defeat the Voltai
  • Mantis Punch: Defeat the Umami Master
  • Royal Wave: Defeat the Duchess
  • Snail Sanctum: Defeat Petroch
  • Tactical Tentacle: Defeat the Consortium boss
  • Urchin Toss: Talk to the Urchin NPC over and over again in the Lower Crust area of New Carcinia

How To Upgrade Adaptations

Another Crab's Treasure Adaptations Royal Wave Tooltip Upgrade Adaptation

Though players can get their first Adaptation after beating the Duchess, Adaptations are not upgradable until after the early portions of the game. To unlock the ability to upgrade adaptations in Another Crab's Treasure, you must learn from the Umami Master – someone Chitan also wishes to learn from.

First, you must have defeated Heikea, Intimidation Crab, a major boss that drops the first Map Piece. Walk to the upper end of the ship that makes up Heikea's boss arena and look for a sandy shelf below. Jump down and continue through the cave to eventually reach the Curdled Village.

Traverse the Curdled Village and you will find Chitan once again, just outside of Topoda's Garden. Walk in to begin the boss fight. The Master will not teach Kril anything until he is defeated.

After beating Grovekeeper Topoda, he will turn into a friendly NPC, and offer to unlock further secrets of the Umami for Kril. Talk to Grovekeeper Topoda to improve the level and effectiveness of your Adaptations in exchange for Crystals.

Crystals are also used for unlocking new abilities in the Skill Tree. Topoda can also reset your chosen Adaptation upgrades for free.
