The Soulslike genre has come a long way in a rather short amount of time. As its name suggests, the Soulslike genre was popularized by 2011's Dark Souls, and in the 14 years since its release the genre has seen countless new entries, all of which have contributed to the genre's growth in their own unique way. The Soulslike genre has also been a haven for exciting, experimental indie games, and last year's Another Crab's Treasure was one such title.
Developed by Seattle-based indie studio Aggro Crab, Another Crab's Treasure is an approachable, but still incredibly challenging Soulslike that sees players embody a hermit crab named Kril, who embarks on a satirical quest to hunt down his stolen shell. At the time of its release, Another Crab's Treasure was praised for its vibrant world, humor, and responsive combat mechanics, and fans hoping for more are in luck. Another Crab's Treasure is getting a free 'Year of the Crab' update on April 21 to celebrate the game's one-year anniversary, and it's adding some features that are sure to make fans want to dive back in.

Everything Confirmed for Another Crab's Treasure's Year of the Crab Update
New Game Plus Mode
Probably the most highly requested feature since launch, Another Crab's Treasure is finally getting a New Game Plus mode on April 21. Developer Aggro Crab has stated that this New Game Plus mode won't simply increase the stats of enemies, but offer remixed enemy encounters, new items, and new attacks for bosses. Kril's Stowaway limit will also be increased to four, and a new set of "Sigil" Stowaways will be added.
Boss Rush Mode
With the Year of the Crab update, players will be able to replay any of Another Crab's Treasure's boss fights by visiting a Moon Snail Shell and clicking on the "Combat Memories" section of the menu. This update will also add a Boss Rush mode to the Soulslike, which seems to collect a handful of similarly themed bosses and task players with defeating each one sequentially.
Bestiary
Another Crab's Treasure will soon receive a Bestiary, which essentially acts as a fully explorable museum. All the enemies and bosses players encounter during their adventure will appear here for closer inspection.
Physical PS5 and Nintendo Switch editions of Another Crab's Treasure were also announced, coming from iam8bit in 2025.
New Upgrades
The trailer for Another Crab's Treasure's Year of the Crab update claimed that "New Upgrades" would be coming to the game, though it's currently unclear what those new upgrades will be. Aggro Crab has confirmed that new upgrades will be available for Kril's Fork weapon, but it's unclear if those are the only ones coming.
New Costumes
A handful of new costumes for Kril were shown in a speedy montage in the trailer. These outfits include a caveman, princess, and wizard costume, as well as a low-poly skin that makes Kril look like a PS1 character model.
New Encounters
New enemy encounters are also on the way, with the trailer showing a giant sandworm launching out of the ground and grabbing Kril.
A New Boss Fight
The most mysterious addition of the lot is Another Crab's Treasure's new boss fight, which was barely even teased during the update's reveal trailer. The only official information Aggro Crab has provided is that the boss "totally deserves it."
Community Updates
Finally, fans playing on Steam can expect some new achievements for Another Crab's Treasure, along with community trading cards.
