Summary
- Get creative with armor in Another Crab's Treasure - from shot glasses to soda cans, the options are endless.
- Each shell in the game offers unique abilities - like shooting bubbles or summoning lightning.
- Don't overlook defense - shells like the Shot Glass or Thimble provide strong protection in battle.
Another Crab's Treasure handles armor very differently compared to a lot of other Soulslikes. It’s also one of the more lenient Soulslikes thanks to handy assist options and it has a cute look that fans of 90s platformers may enjoy. First, the hero of this story, Kril, can use nearly anything as a shell for armor.
Another Crab's Treasure: 5 Combat Tips To Make You A King Crab
These Another Crab's Treasure combat tips will help players learn the game's unique approach to the Soulslike formula.
From shot glasses to soda cans, there are a lot of options in Another Crab's Treasure. Players struggling can even use a gun as a shell which also doubles as a weapon. It’s a wild game, so let’s get to some of the better shells players can find in the game without having to pay money.
8 Soda Can
Weaponizing Fizz
- Location: The Shallows, East
- Defense: 30
- Weight: Medium
The Soda Can will be the first shell players acquire after losing their home. It can be found east of the castle which is also where players will encounter their first boss, Nephro. It’s kind of a hard boss like the first encounter in Elden Ring, Tree Sentinel, but thankfully there are multiple Soda Cans around. The great thing about this shell is the ability Fizzle. This will shoot out bubbles at enemies, stun them, and it will do a decent amount of damage.
7 Tin Can
Channeling The Power Of Ramuh
- Location: Route To Cave
- Defense: 40
- Weight: Medium
- Bonus: +1 Resistance
The Tin Can may not seem like a big upgrade from the Soda Can but it is. Players are likely able to find it on the way to the Moon Snail’s Cave while using the upper castle bridge. It has an ability attached to it called Shellshock which will summon down a bolt of lightning.
It’s kind of like channeling Ramuh from the Final Fantasy games who is a being that can summon lightning. This ability is great for dealing damage but the shell’s defense is reliable too.
6 Party Hat
A Shotgun Blast Of Fun
- Location: Moon Snail’s Cave
- Defense: 20
- Weight: Small
- Bonus: +2 Umami Power
The Party Hat can be found in the Moon Snail’s Cave along with a plethora of other shells. It’s the game’s first true dungeon complete with another tough boss. The ability attached to it is called Party Time and it acts like a shotgun blast in a shooter.
12 Best Open-World Games For Underwater Exploration
Most open-world games allow players to explore across a wide variety of lands, but few try to expand upon the oceans and let players explore there.
This is a great ability to use when multiple enemies are coming at Kril since the cone of effect is wide. The closer enemies are, the greater the damage will be.
5 Shot Glass
An Icy Defense
- Location: Moon Snail’s Cave
- Defense: 70
- Weight: Small
- Bonus: +3 Attack Power
The Shot Glass is a small shell with an amazing defense power of 70. The stats and mobility of the shell are great but so is the attached skill. Shards will summon a chunk of glass, which looks like ice, to surround the shell.
This boost to defense will ward off and damage enemies that try to attack Kril. To bring it back to Final Fantasy, it’s not as cool as shooting ice like the Summon Shiva, but the Shot Glass’ Shard is still useful.
4 Coconut
Going Full Sonic
- Location: Slacktide Castle
- Defense: 35
- Weight: Large
The Coconut has to be the best early shell in the game because of the attached ability. It’s called Rollout and it will put Kril in a tiny ball while he charges up and then shoots out at enemies. It’s kind of like Sonic using his spinning attack in the Sonic the Hedgehog games.
The only downside to the Coconut shell is that it does hinder Kril’s movement just a bit. The Rollout attack makes up for this though as it’s also a fast traversal mechanic if used outside of battle.
3 Teacup
Another Sonic Boost
- Location: Slacktide Castle
- Defense: 40
- Weight: Small
Like the Coconut, the Teacup shell can be found once Slacktide Castle falls to the corruption. Players should be able to find it in the throne room during the boss fight with Magista, the Queen. The attached power for the Teacup is called Morning Buzz and it should be useful for this encounter.
8 Best Underwater Games, Ranked
Creating a game with an underwater world can be challenging, but with great characters and an immersive story, these games are the best picks.
Morning Buzz will increase Kril’s attack speed, allowing players to land more blows before they have to dodge or block. Magista, despite her size, is a fast crab which is why giving Kril a shell with an ability like this is important. Sometimes Soulslikes can be kind in this way.
2 Sauce Nozzle
A Spinning Top
- Location: Reef’s Edge
- Defense: 25
- Weight: Small
The Sauce Nozzle is another great shell that almost stands toe to toe with the Coconut. It can be found in the next bordering area of the game, the Reef’s Edge. The attached ability is called Twist Top and it will spin Kril around for a great area of effect attack. It’s kind of like the typical sword spin ability Link gets in The Legend of Zelda games. Players have to be careful when using Twist Top though, especially in the Reef’s Edge, because it can be easy to fall off of cliffs.
1 Thimble
Fortifying More Than Your Thumb
- Location: Reef’s Edge
- Defense: 40
- Weight: Medium
- Bonus: +1 Resistance
Lastly, the Thimble is a well-rounded shell that is good for defense. Players can activate an ability called Fortify while wearing it. This will surround Kril with three visible shields that will give the shell’s health an extra layer of protection.
As long as players have Umami charges, they can keep stacking this effect once the extra shields get depleted. It’s a good shell to use during boss fights if players want to play the game defensively.
