Cartoon Network legend and one of the greatest animators of all-time, Genndy Tartakovsky, is officially joining the Game of Thrones franchise for a new animated series. The director of the Hotel Transylvania series and creator of iconic TV shows like Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack, the 2003 Star Wars: Clone Wars series, and Adult Swim's Primal, Emmy-Award winning Tartakovsky will be bringing a new prequel to life for the A Song of Ice and Fire universe.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Quietly Confirms 28 Year Old Game of Thrones Theory
28 years after The Hedge Knight's release, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 1 quietly confirmed Dunk was not knighted by Ser Arlan of Pennytree.
Formerly titled Nine Voyages, HBO's The Sea Snake will be set decades before House of the Dragon, chronicling the adventures of a young Corlys Velaryon before he marries The Queen Who Never Was, Rhaenys Targaryen, and finds himself caught in the wildfire that is the Dance of the Dragons. Unlike other Game of Thrones series, The Sea Snake will be entirely animated, and with Genndy Tartakovsky now joining the team, he's sure to bring his unique art direction and masterful talents to the animated series.
Legendary Animator Genndy Tartakovsky Joins the Game of Thrones Universe
Genndy Tartakovsky is best-known for his atmospheric, action-packed series. Tartakovsky is an animator who understands how to tell a story in a visual medium better than most creatives, making him a perfect addition to the Game of Thrones universe. In a franchise defined by high quality cinematography, direction, and production values, Tartakovsky might very well be the best choice to headline an animated series.
It's Official: Game of Thrones is Getting a Sequel Series
HBO is officially moving forward with a Game of Thrones sequel series that will center on Arya Stark.
Series like Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003), Samurai Jack, and Primal have been lauded for their beautiful fight scenes, dynamic visual storytelling, and raw atmosphere. The Sea Snake will be set all across Essos, bringing to life settings neither Game of Thrones viewers nor A Song of Ice and Fire readers have ever seen before. With Tartakovsky signature art style at the helm, locations like Yi Ti, Asshai, and the Shivering Sea will be sure to live up to fans' imaginations and George R.R. Martin's vision for the series.
The Sea Snake is a House of the Dragon Prequel Starring Corlys Velaryon
For anyone wondering why a non-Targaryen from House of the Dragon is getting their own spin-off, Corlys Velaryon is actually one of the most well-traveled characters in the Game of Thrones franchise. According to The World of Ice & Fire and Fire & Blood, Corlys went on nine great voyages which were eventually chronicled in-universe in the tome, The Nine Voyages by Maester Mathis. At a time when most Westerosi sailors refused to travel past Qarth, Corlys made a name for himself by sailing his way into the Further East region of Essos.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Could Run For 10 Seasons, Longer Than Game of Thrones
George R.R. Martin gave A Knight of the Seven Kingdom's showrunner 10 to 12 outlines so HBO can finish the series before GRRM writes more books.
Corlys has seen sights and wonders which have only been mentioned in passing in the books. Corlys has been to Yi Ti, Leng, the Shadow Lands of Asshai, N'ghai, Mossovy, and even the Shivering Sea. The Sea Snake is less likely to be a character study into Corlys Velaryon, and more so a way for HBO to flesh out A Song of Ice and Fire with world-building the books will never be able to touch on. So long as George R.R. Martin remains involved, The Sea Snake will finally show fans what lies beyond Essos.
