With the Nature Day festivities having started and players all around the world showing their green thumbs, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is truly blossoming. Players have access to new flowers and plants thanks to Leif coming to town as well.
Leif sells many different plants and flowers, including roses for players without them, but what many long-time Animal Crossing fans will be satisfied with is the inclusion of shrubbery. Shrubs can be planted as a sort of living fence around the island. These plants can also have flowers that bloom in different seasons.
With shrubs acting as both a fence, a tree, and a flower, some players may not know how to take care of them. There are six different varieties of shrubs with five of them coming in two different colors. These varieties cannot be bred for hybrids like other flowers.
Out of all the things mentioned above, shrubs are most like trees in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. While they can grow directly next to each other, they can grow just fine without water. Watering them doesn't even affect their growth, so its best to just save the water for flowers.
Players wanting to plant these tiny little trees are recommended to do so, as they have the possibility of being the subject of one of the Nature Day Nook Miles+ Tasks. Shrubs can be purchased from Leif while he is visiting players' islands. Like other traveling salesmen on the islands, he won't appear until Nook's Cranny is built. Players can also obtain different varieties by visiting other players' islands, as Leif will have different stocks every time he visits somewhere.
With different shrubs being available during different seasons, players will want to keep returning to Leif for more and more of these beautiful flowering plants. For players in the northern hemisphere, they will get to experience azaleas blooming while players in the southern hemisphere will experience the tea olive shrubs blooming.
The 1.2.0 update has added many new features for players to try out. Those who want to get the most out of the new update should play daily and explore everything to see on their islands.
