Animal Crossing: New Horizons have been one of the best selling games for the Nintendo Switch of all time. However, another game for the Switch has surpassed its sales the past week in Japan, much to fans' surprise.
Since its release in March, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has soared to the forefront of Switch fans' attention. Many players have used the game's creative features to replicate scenes and locations from popular media such as Danny Phantom and Demon Slayer. While the game has been extremely popular with Nintendo players, another game is proving to be more popular for the Switch in Japan.
According to the latest sales figures for games in Japan, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is only the second highest selling game. The installment of Animal Crossing has been surpassed by a new Konami game that was also released this past week. EBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 is quickly becoming a big hit in Japan, with both the Switch and PS4 versions of the games taking up the top two selling positions across all platforms for the week of July 6.
Konami released this sports oriented game part of the way through last week, but it still managed to exceed Animal Crossing: New Horizons sales by over 30,000 copies on its Switch version alone. EBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 is a new take on the popular sport with cutesy characters. Another new PS4 game, Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris, also beat out the Nintendo iconic game's sales numbers, but the new baseball game was the only game for the Nintendo Switch to sell higher than Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Switch itself had a boost in sales as well, seeing over 70,000 consoles sold in Japan in the past week.
While this may seem like a hit to the popular Animal Crossing game, New Horizons has been seeing high, steady sales all around the world. With the newest update adding diving suits to the game, there are more activities that may attract new players to the game, especially since many friends can use the Animal Crossing game to connect and enjoy each other's company during the summer months.
