Redd the fox has recently arrived in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and he has brought a bounty of artwork along with him. However, not every piece of art that players will find on Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler is legitimate, as there is a real and fake version of almost every artwork in ACNH. This is indeed the case with the game's Mystic Statue, and this guide will highlight the big difference between the two versions of this sculpture.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Mystic Statue is based on a sculpture called the Nefertiti Bust, which is believed to have been created by Ancient Egyptian sculptor Thutmose. Discovered by an archaeological team in 1912, it is thought that the Nefertiti Bust was sculpted in 1345 BC, and it is currently located at the Neues Museum in Berlin. When trying to determine if a Mystic Statue in ACNH is real or fake, players should look at the sculpture's ear.

ACNH Art Guide - How to Tell if Redd's Paintings Are Real or Fake

A familiar face returns with paintings and statues for sale, but which of Redd's artwork is real and which is fake? Find out with our ACNH art guide.

More specifically, if there is an earring dangling from the right ear of the Mystic Statue, then it is forged. However, if there is no earring at all, then it is a legitimate Mystic Statue, and players who have not previously obtained this sculpture for their museum art galleries in Animal Crossing: New Horizons should feel free to purchase it. Here is an image that compares the real and fake versions of the Mystic Statue in ACNH for those who would like a visual:

To note, there is not a forged version of absolutely every sculpture in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and players can freely purchase any Familiar Statues and Great Statues that they see, as they will always be real. However, there are fakes of the other sculptures in the game, and players may want to reference similar guides before spending their Bells on these artworks.

That said, not all is lost if a player has accidentally bought a fake in ACNH, as these forgeries can always be displayed in a villager's home or around their island. Indeed, while these artworks may not pass by Blathers' scrutinizing eye and receive admittance into his art exhibition, they can still serve as useful tools for decoration.
