The Megaphone was added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons as part of its Switch 2 update in January 2026, and it can be used to call your villagers and other special characters via your microphone, to help locate them quickly.
This is literally easier said than done though, as the Megaphone isn't great at picking up on your voice, no matter what accent you have. So to help master this tool, we've explained how to get the Megaphone in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, how to use the Megaphone, and provide handy tips and setting changes to increase your odds of getting the Megaphone to work.
All Features Exclusive to Animal Crossing New Horizons Switch 2 Edition
Here is what is included in the Switch 2 upgrade for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
How to Get the Megaphone in ACNH
All you need to do is go to the green cabinet in your Nook's Cranny shop to get the Megaphone in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It only costs 3,500 bells, but you need to be playing the Switch 2 Edition of the game in order to get access to the Megaphone.
Don't worry, you don't have to buy a whole new full-priced game to get your hands on the Megaphone and other Switch 2 Edition content. As, if you have a Switch 2 and a copy of ACNH already, you only need to find the upgrade pack for the game in the Nintendo eShop and purchase it instead, for a fraction of the price.
How to Use the Megaphone in ACNH
In theory, it's easy to use the Megaphone in ACNH:
- Equip the Megaphone from your inventory, or from the "Favorites" wheel
- Hold down the "A" button
- Say the name of the villager/special character you want to find
- Follow the direction of the character's speech bubble to locate them
In practice, however, the Megaphone is an incredibly tricky piece of equipment to get right. It seems that no matter what accent you have, it's going to take at least a few attempts before the game understands who you're trying to call. And that's the best case scenario, as it might not understand who you're trying to call at all before you give up.
However, we've found that turning off the "Microphone Noise Suppression" option from the Audio tab of the Switch 2's Settings menu helped a great deal in getting the game to pick up on our voice.
Try saying the name of the villager you want to find as soon as you've pressed the "A" button. We've found that this works far more often than waiting for your character to lift the Megaphone before talking.
When it is working, the Megaphone can be used to locate both villagers and special characters who aren't currently inside buildings, like Kapp'n and Resetti in ACNH. It can even be used to wake up Gulliver when he washes up on your beach. Just keep in mind that you can't use the Megaphone indoors, or when exploring places like Harv's Island.
