Today, June 27, is the start of the Bug Off event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Until 6pm local time, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can compete in a special bug-catching tournament to win special prizes and rewards.

To participate in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Bug Off event, the first thing players need to do is talk to Flick in the plaza. Flick waives the entry fee for first-time competitors in the Bug Off event, but those that want to do it more will need to fork over 500 bells per round. The goal is to catch as many bugs as possible within three minutes, with points awarded for every bug caught. Catching more than three bugs will give players a two point bonus, allowing them to grow their score exponentially. Players don't need to worry about inventory space during this event because every bug caught is automatically transferred to Flick, and players can then choose to sell them or keep some to donate to Blathers' museum.

Every 10 points will get players a random prize from Flick, and bronze, silver, and gold trophies are awarded at 100, 200, and 300 points, respectively. Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can work together to build up their cumulative score to get the trophies, which makes unlocking everything in the Bug Off event much easier.

Similarly to the Fishing Tourney event, the rewards that Animal Crossing: New Horizons players get by participating in the Bug Off event are random. Considering this, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players may want to keep a checklist handy to make sure that they have unlocked all of the possible prizes. Here is everything that Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can get as a reward in the Bug Off event:

  • Artisanal Bug Cage
  • Bug Aloha Shirt
  • Bug Cage
  • Bug Wand
  • Butterfly Backpack
  • Butterflies Wall
  • Ladybug Rug
  • Ladybug Umbrella
  • Spider Doorplate
  • Spider Web
  • Termite Mound
  • Toy Centipede
  • Toy Cockroach

Anyone interested in unlocking these bug-themed Animal Crossing: New Horizons furniture and clothing items should be sure to participate in the Bug Off event today while they still can. Remember that the event ends at 6pm local time, so when that time rolls around, fans will have to wait for the next Bug Off event if they want to unlock these rewards for their collection.

Besides future Bug Off events, there is plenty more for Animal Crossing: New Horizons players to look forward to in the future. July 3 will see the release of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Summer Update - Wave 1, which is adding the ability to swim among a number of other features.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
