In Star Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope, the Rebellion seemed like such a well-put-together resistance against the Empire when Luke joined. Behind the scenes, thanks to Andor, it very clearly got off to a rough start. When organizing any sort of resistance group, there are going to be arguments about how to take down dictatorships.

8 Best Characters In Andor Season 2, Ranked

Characters are the bread and butter of Andor, and while Season 1 set them up, Season 2 made sure their arcs all paid off in spectacular fashion.

That’s why it took so long to truly get the Rebellion underway on Yavin 4. Characters lost a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to make it happen; some more than others. Taking into account Andor along with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, let’s determine who gave the most to the Rebellion to make the Empire’s downfall possible.

Spoilers Ahead for Andor.

8 Bix Caleen

Motivating Cassian To Keep Going

Bix and her baby in Andor
  • Played By: Adria Arjona

Bix got the short end of the stick in Andor season one, being psychologically tortured by an Imperial doctor named Gorst. In season two, those effects were still with her, but her desire to fight back against the Empire was stronger than ever.

Save for one brief mission about getting revenge, Bix’s biggest contribution was leaving in episode nine. Bix gave Cassian a note because she knew she was holding him back from doing what was right: following the Rebellion. Her departure helped solidify one of the greatest heroes in the Rebellion’s history.

7 Maarva Andor

Turning A Funeral Into A Rally

Maarva in Andor
  • Played By: Fiona Shaw

Maarva was a motivational character on a grander scale than just one person, although this too relates to Cassian. Maarva was Cassian’s adopted mother, who fell ill and died in season one. She held out against Imperial spies till her dying breath, though, and did not give up on Cassian.

She also didn’t give up on the people of Ferrix. With her last bit of energy, she recorded a hologram to play at her funeral, which was a rousing speech to fight back against the Empire. It was a spark that ignited and gave the people of Ferrix hope, showing would-be rebels that the Empire is not without weakness.

6 Carro Rylanz

And The People Of Ghorman

Carro in Andor
  • Played By: Richard Sammel

Carro was a leader of the Ghorman resistance whom Cassian tried to back down. The people of Ghorman were inexperienced, and Cassian knew any resistance would lead to their deaths. Carro and his people didn’t care, though, because standing still and not doing anything was a crime too.

8 Best Quotes From Andor Season 2

Andor features some of the best writing in Star Wars' history, as exemplified in these memorable quotes from the show's second season.

Cassian was right in that Ghorman, as a planet, was fully taken over by the Empire, and its people were slaughtered in an act of genocide. This act would not sit right with the rest of the galaxy, though, which helped imprint the idea that the Rebellion, as a concept, needed to happen or else another Ghorman incident could occur.

5 Kleya Marki

Carrying On Luthen’s Message

Kleya in Andor
  • Played By: Elizabeth Dulau

Kleya was Luthen’s assistant, his daughter of sorts, and a member of the Rebellion. While she did what Luthen said, Kleya also had ideas of her own. She helped intercept messages for the Rebellion and took on the odd mission for Luthen, too.

Her biggest moment was episode ten in season two, which intercut between her breaking into an Imperial hospital and flashbacks of when she was a child and met Luthen for the first time. Thanks to her, the Empire was prevented from questioning Luthen, and she handed vital information over to Cassian and the Rebels about the Death Star.

4 Vel Sartha

A Heist Done Right

Vel in Andor
  • Played By: Faye Marsay

Vel was one of the key characters in the first season of Andor, as she helped orchestrate a heist. Thanks to that mission, which led to some deaths and injuries, Vel was able to secure the credits needed to help fund more missions for the Rebellion.

Her role in season two was a bit more muted, although she was the one who took over for Cassian on Ghorman. She trained them as best she could, but in the process, Vel lost the love of her life, Cinta, after another heist went wrong. She lost both her love and her status on Coruscant to be a Rebel.

3 Mon Mothma

Leaving Behind Status And Family

Mon Mothma in Andor
  • Played By: Genevieve O'Reilly

Mon Mothma had status on Coruscant, too, but she was a Senator. In season one, she helped orchestrate some cash to fund the Rebels while Bail Organa, Leia’s adopted father, worked in the background. Eventually, Mon Mothma had to make a choice, and she chose the truth over her personal safety.

Andor: 6 Things Season 2 Did Better Than Season 1

With Season 2 of Andor now complete, let's look back at all the ways this final season improved upon the first iteration of this Star Wars prequel.

In a rousing speech in the Senate, Mon Mothma called out Emperor Palpatine, which immediately had guards rushing after her. Thankfully, Cassian was able to protect her so that she could become the leader of the Rebels on Yavin 4. She gave up everything for the Rebellion, from her Senate position to her family, including a daughter and husband.

2 Luthen Rael

Selling His Soul For The Cause

Luthen in Andor
  • Played By: Stellan Skarsgard

The biggest question here is what didn’t Luthen give up to fight back against The Empire? His backstory still has some holes in it by the end of Andor season two, but it’s safe to say he did some dark things to get where he ended up.

Cassian often butted heads with Luthen, along with other members of the Rebellion, but they all owe their lives to Luthen in the end. He may have gone too far at times, but without him, the Rebellion would have just been an idea instead of an organization. He literally gave his life to the cause.

1 Cassian Andor

Setting Up A New Hope

Cassian in Andor
  • Played By: Diego Luna

Cassian is only ranked higher than Luthen because of what he went on to do in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Thanks to his team in that movie, including characters like Ruescott Melshi, K-2SO, and Jyn Erso, they would secure the plans for the Death Star while dying in the process. This led to the Rebellion passing those plans on to Luke Skywalker, who would then go on to blow up the Death Star in Star Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope.

Cassian did more for the Rebels than just that, though. He was the central character of Andor, aiding in that aforementioned heist with Vel, taking part in rebellion on Ferrix, and aiding in countless other missions for Luthen. Andor was seemingly made to showcase how important Cassian was, and now fans know for sure.
