The game was developed by an independent American game studio, Innersloth. The company not only designed and made Among Us but also published it in 2018 to the world. Among Us takes inspiration from the classic party game Mafia and presents a unique challenge to the gamers, where they need to find impostors within the spaceship to expel them.
What Makes Among Us a Great Party Game
Among Us offers a captivating space-themed adventure where players become colorful astronauts, each with specific roles as Crewmates or Impostors. Crewmates focus on completing tasks and identifying the Impostors, who aim to eliminate them. The game supports up to fifteen players with a minimum of four, and with up to three randomly chosen to be the Impostors. It features five playable maps, each with unique challenges and settings. Crewmates win by completing tasks or identifying all Impostors, while Impostors can win by eliminating Crewmates or sabotaging critical systems on the map.
The game mechanics is what makes Among Us unique. Crewmates take on various tasks around the map, represented as minigames or puzzles. These tasks are essential for the ship's maintenance, which keeps Impostors from winning. Impostors, unable to complete actual tasks, fake them to blend in with Crewmates while strategically sabotaging the ship and eliminating players. Maps are equipped with surveillance systems to aid in identifying Impostors, and some tasks provide visual cues that only Crewmates can perform.
Among Us: Crewmate Edition is a special edition of the game, which includes the physical copy, in this case for Nintendo Switch, all DLC items, and downloadable content, with various cosmetics.
