When it came out in 2018, Among Us went largely unnoticed by the wider gaming community, but that’s far from the case now. Due to various factors like COVID-19 and increased exposure by popular streamers, Among Us has exploded in popularity over the summer, so much so that it recently reached over 3 million concurrent players.

Now, just to clarify, the concurrent player count only refers to the number of people who were playing the game at the same time. As large as 3.8 million is, it’s tiny compared to the nearly 60 million players who were playing it daily this weekend. Even more insane is the number of people who have downloaded Among Us so far, which, according to Willard, is approaching 100 million.

The popularity the game has seen in such a short time would be incredible even for a AAA title with a massive marketing campaign, let alone a small indie people only became aware of through word-of-month. Needless to say, it’s a safe bet that that popularity will grow further over the next few weeks, and that the game can stand to gain even more momentum if a console port of Among Us ever happens.
