Summary
- Season 13 of AHS isn't confirmed, disappointing fans who crave its eerie themes and tropes.
- There's interest in a final season with returning characters, Easter eggs, and crossovers.
- AHS might benefit from revisiting a haunted house theme like in season 1 and ending the show.
American Horror Story has had a fairly consistent release schedule since season 1, Murder House, came out in 2011. But it's been a long wait since season 12 ended in the spring of 2024, and after wondering when a new season would arrive, fans recently learned that season 13 isn't officially in the works. That's discouraging news for viewers who enjoy the eerie tropes that the series dives into, from old haunted mansions to strange hotels to a dangerous cult.
However, there's still a lot of interest in another season of American Horror Story, and there are countless plot ideas that the show could use. If season 13 gets made at some point, it should be the end, and it might be time to say goodbye to the Ryan Murphy-created series.
If Evan Peters Returns For American Horror Story Season 13, He Needs To Play This Kind Of Character (Or It Won't Work)
Beloved returning American Horror Story cast member Evan Peters has played more than a few unsettling villains.
Why American Horror Story Season 13 Should Be The Final One
Fans still want to see more from the frightening series, and viewers need closure on the world that Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk created. However, some feel that American Horror Story has run its course, and some fans prefer earlier seasons of the show to more recent ones. It's hard for some to imagine the series continuing for several more years.
If AHS had one more season, it would be the perfect opportunity to bring back past characters, include lots of fun Easter eggs, or do a crossover season. Perhaps favorite cast members Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters could each play a new character but also reprise an older role. It would be fun to see Paulson's Cordelia Goode from season 3 in the same season as a fresh character, whether she plays a good, likable person or a diabolical villain. Evan Peters's season 1 villain Tate Langdon could also pop up again and wreak some havoc.
Perhaps American Horror Story season 13 could go back to its season 1 roots and use the classic horror setting of a haunted house. While sometimes this trope can be dull, including returning characters who are ghosts, demons, or other villains would make it interesting. Featuring returning characters could also make the season a success since fans who didn't enjoy some of the more recent episodes would want to watch again.
It also feels like the right time to end American Horror Story because the spinoff anthology series, American Horror Stories, is so compelling. Some might argue that the spinoff is even scarier than the original. Although the popular episode "Bestie" has a plot hole, it's a haunting and meaningful story about popularity, teenagehood, and bullying. Other episodes, like "Backrooms," attempt to address Internet lore, which is interesting. Perhaps even more than its predecessor, American Horror Stories combines scary tales with powerful and thought-provoking themes. Since every episode is a self-contained complete arc, it makes sense to keep going. Although there isn't any news about a new season of American Horror Stories, fans hope there will be more.
Ryan Murphy Has Several Intriguing TV Shows In Development
While Ryan Murphy might not be officially working on American Horror Story season 13, he's been very busy for the past few years. Murphy's many TV shows range from terrifying tales to more grounded stories about first responders, such as the 9-1-1 franchise that includes the title show and the spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Star, starring Rob Lowe.
Besides working on 9-1-1: Nashville, which will air during ABC's 2025/2026 broadcast schedule, the showrunner is developing the legal drama All's Fair. American Horror Story fans will want to check that out as staple cast member Sarah Paulson is appearing alongside Kim Kardashian and Niecy Nash, who starred in Murphy's 2024 series Grotesquerie. Paulson is always an impressive talent, whether playing a witch on AHS or a more realistic character. Although he's known for his work in the horror genre and has brought countless creepy tales to the small screen, Murphy has delved into other genres, and his upcoming projects show that he's interested in telling several different types of stories.
In May 2025, Deadline reported that Murphy is adapting the Brett Easton Ellis book The Shards for FX. Max Winkler will direct, and Kaia Gerber will star in it. While not a horror novel, the story is a thriller set at a school, and it will be interesting to see Murphy's take on it.

American Horror Story Season 13 Should Use This One Aspect Of American Horror Stories (& It Could Be The Best Season Yet)
American Horror Story season 13 could be great if it is inspired by the best part of the dark and compelling spinoff series American Horror Stories.
