While some horror TV shows are full of corny moments or awkward plot holes, Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story is often at the top of its game. The genuinely creepy settings of haunted houses, small towns, an asylum, a strange circus, and a dangerous camp always draw viewers in, and every season has enough star power to keep viewers invested. Now that it's been over a year since the season 12 finale aired, fans are ready for more.
Although it might be a while before fans get to see American Horror Story season 13, Murphy has shared his interest in continuing the eerie franchise in a few interviews. Fans wonder what the main plotline could be and if the next season will end the franchise. For now, there are no answers to these questions, but if the next season was a spinoff of one of the most beloved seasons, that would be fascinating.
American Horror Story Season 13 Should Use This One Aspect Of American Horror Stories (& It Could Be The Best Season Yet)
American Horror Story season 13 could be great if it is inspired by the best part of the dark and compelling spinoff series American Horror Stories.
American Horror Story Season 13 Should Be A Spinoff Of Coven
In a 2013 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Murphy talked about the possibility of making a spinoff of American Horror Story: Coven. He said:
“[FX CEO] John Landgraf and I have always spoken about how this is a show that is ripe to spin something off, to do something different. I already know what next season is. It’s not witches, but maybe something will happen. We’re talking about it. I have the next season of Horror Story already plotted, and it’s quite different and fun.”
While American Horror Story: Apocalypse features some of the compelling and strong-willed Coven characters, such as Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe), Cordelia Goode (Sarah Paulson), and Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts), an official spinoff was never made. Season 13 could continue the story and dive even deeper into the lore of these witches. It would be great to see these three characters again, and since Murphy said he and Paulson are "cooking up something cool," she's definitely on board with a new season.
American Horror Story season 13 could be a prequel that shows how The Coven began. This would solve some potential plot holes since it would mean ignoring the events of Apocalypse, and it would also give fans the engaging backstory they've been hoping for. With 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, Coven is definitely one of the most well-received seasons, and bringing back these smart and surprising witches would also please fans who are wondering about the long wait for the upcoming season.
Ever since The Blair Witch Project came out in 1999, witches have been an enduring horror trope, and there's no end to the story possibilities . A new season of AHS could introduce new members of the Coven, or an ancestor of Madison who started it all.
Fans Continue To Praise American Horror Story: Coven
Of course, not everyone has the same favorite American Horror Story season since horror fans have strong opinions about the best and most lackluster tropes. While some love tales about witches, others prefer ghost stories, want to see a new take on haunted houses, or appreciate the unique circus setting of Freak Show. But American Horror Story: Coven is definitely up there, and many viewers have shared why they like it in a few Reddit threads. Redditor @Pure_Log5679 said it has , "Great acting Great story." Another Redditor praised the talents of AHS staple actress Jessica Lange and Angela Bassett and wrote:
"It had a tight and focused story (...Mostly) and it was cast well beyond expectations."
In another Reddit thread, one fan shared their equal love for Coven and season 6, which was called Roanoke. They appreciate "the story / characters / themes" of Coven.
