Dynamax battles were added in Pokemon GO in September 2024, but it wouldn't be until late-October 2024 when Niantic would include Gigantamax Pokemon. Gigantamax differs from Dynamax in a variety of ways: a Pokemon's appearance will change, and said Pokemon will also have an exclusive move called a G-Max Move.
There are 32 Pokemon that have Gigantamax forms, but Pokemon GO has yet to include all of them. You can catch specific Gigantamax Pokemon during Max Raid events, in which you'll battle the Gigantamaxed Pokemon in a 6-star raid. Win the raid, and you'll have a chance to catch your very own Gigantamax Pokemon.

Every Gigantamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO (July 2025)
As of July 2025, a total of 13 Gigantamax Pokemon appear/can appear in Pokemon GO. There have also been speculations about Eternatus' Eternamax form in light of Pokemon GO's Max Finale (August 2025). To join a Max Battle, you'll need 800 Max Particles and be within 80 meters of the Power Spot. So, make sure to remember these requirements if you plan to catch any of the below Gigantamax Pokemon:

GO Bigger |
Although Gigantamax Charizard got its Gigantamax form in the initial version of Pokemon Sword/Shield, Gigantamax Venusaur and Gigantamax Blastoise were added with the addition of the Isle of Armor DLC. In Pokemon GO, all three Kanto final evolutions were added at the same time. On October 26, 2024 to October 27, 2024, Gigantamax Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise could be fought during GO's "GO Bigger" in-game event.
While "GO Bigger" has already passed, GO still recycles these three Pokemon for events like the Max Finale (August 23, 2025). Thus, you'll still have a chance to battle them if you missed the first round.

Halloween 2024 Part II |
Costumed Froakie and Rowlet weren't the only new Pokemon during the "Halloween 2024 Part II" event. From October 31–November 3, 2024, you could find Gigantamax Gengar at Power Spots. Gigantamax Gengar's chilling Pokedex entries were enough to make it stand out among the roster of Gigantamax Pokemon in Sword/Shield, and now you can have one in Pokemon GO. Gigantamax Gengar's Ghost/Poison-typing makes it vulnerable to Ghost, Psychic, Ground (GO only), and Dark-type moves. So, next time the Shadow Pokemon returns in its Gigantamax form, you'll want to have some Dynamax Pokemon that can target its weaknesses.

Pokemon GO Wild Area: Global |
Toxtricity is the first Pokemon from Gen 8 to have its Gigantamax form in Pokemon GO. It made its debut in the "Pokemon GO Wild Area: Fukuoka" on November 16, 2024. It wouldn't be until November 23-24, 2024 that it would be accessible worldwide through "Pokemon GO Wild Area: Global." Unfortunately, getting a chance to battle/catch Gigantamax Toxtricity required the purchase of a Pokemon GO Wild Area ticket. The limited-time event has since passed, and it's unknown when Gigantamax Toxtricity will climb over the paywall.

Max Out |
2024 ended with the arrival of Gigantamax Lapras on December 8 during "Gigantamax Lapras Max Battle Day." Like all Gigantamax Pokemon, Gigantamax Lapras only appeared in Max Raids for a limited time. Fortunately, you were given another chance to battle it on its "Max Battle Day" (July 19, 2025) during the Delightful Days event.
Gigantamax Lapras' dual Water/Ice-type requires you to combat its type weaknesses with Electric, Fighting, Grass, or Rock-type moves. As always, you don't want to battle Gigantamax Lapras if you have a group of less than 10 people. 6-star raids require you to bring your best Dynamax Pokemon, so you should spend time powering up Max Moves between now and the next Gigantamax Lapras appearance.
The arrival of Gigantamax Lapras also included the introduction of Max Mushrooms. In Sword/Shield, these were used to unlock a Pokemon's Gigantamax form, or revert them back to their Dynamax form. In GO, Max Mushrooms work differently. They'll temporarily power up your Fast/Charged Attacks and your Max Moves during Max Battles. The more Max Mushrooms you use, the longer the effects.

February 1, 2025 |
Dual Destiny |
To start off the new year, Pokemon GO added Gigantamax Kingler to 6-star Max Battles on February 1, 2024 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm local for "Dual Destiny's" Max Battle Day. Water-type Gigantamax Kingler is weak to Grass and Electric-type moves, which are fortunately common move types. However, your team should brace themselves for its G-Max Move: G-Max Foam Burst. This attack is powerful on its own, but when backed by the power of a 6-star raid, it can potentially KO one of your Pokemon with ease. As with "Gigantamax Lapras Max Battle Day," Gigantamax Kingler's day has come and gone, but it'll likely appear again.

Might & Mastery |
When it comes to Gigantamax designs, Gigantamax Snorlax's is among the most creative. Snorlax's Gigantamax form first appeared in GO during the "Might & Mastery" 2025 event. On April 19, 2025, Gigantamax Snorlax could be spotted at Power Spots in 6-star Max Raids. Trainers would have from 2:00pm to 5:00pm local before Gigantamax Snorlax stopped spawning. Snorlax itself is quite bulky, and this doubles when it's Gigantamax Snorlax. Know your type matchups and make sure you battle it with a full group instead of by yourself.

Might & Mastery |
Gigantamax Machamp was Pokemon Sword/Shield Gym Leader Bea's ace Pokemon, and it's no wonder. Pokemon GO welcomed Gigantamax Machamp with open arms on May 25, 2025 with "Gigantamax Machamp Max Battle Day" during March-June 2025's "Might & Mastery." You had from 2:00pm to 5:00pm local on May 25 (2025) to battle it at 6-star Max Raids. If you missed it, you'll have to wait for the next time it appears in GO.

Serene Retreat |
Gigantamax Rillaboom made its debut during the "Serene Retreat" event, which took place from May 30 - June 3, 2025. Gigantamax Rillaboom would spawn at Power Spots from May 31 (6:00am, local) to June 1 (9:00pm, local). Now that the Serene Retreat has ended, you won't be seeing Gigantamax Rillaboom at Power Spots unless there's another in-game event. If you missed the opportunity to catch one, you should work on building a team of Dynamax Pokemon with moves that target Gigantamax Rillaboom's weaknesses: Ice, Fire, Flying, Bug, and Poison-type moves.

Instrumental Wonders |
The second part of GO's 2025 Fest was "Instrumental Wonders." This took place June 7, 2025 to June 11, 2025. Wild encounters and Raids included a variety of Pokemon such as Meowth, Beldum, and Falinks. However, most trainers had their eyes set on Gigantamax Cinderace. From June 7 at 6:00am (local) to June 8, 9:00pm (local), Gigantamax Cinderace appeared at Power Spots. Being the Fire-type starter of the Galar region, it was expected that Gigantamax Cinderace would follow up Gigantamax Rillaboom. Again, if you missed out on Gigantamax Cinderace raids, then you'll have to wait until it returns to GO's Power Stops.

Phantom Ruins |
The final part of the GO Fest event was "Phantom Ruins," which ran from June 14–June 18, 2025. Like Rillaboom and Cinderace before it, Gigantamax Inteleon was seen at Power Spots from June 14 (6:00am, local) to June 15, 2025 (9:00pm local). Although a Dynamax Sobble can be caught from Power Spots, it won't have the ability to Gigantamax when it evolves into Inteleon. If you want the Gigantamax Inteleon, you're going to have to beat the one that appears in the 6-star Raid Battles.

Delightful Days |
While Butterfree didn't get a Mega Evolution in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire like Beedril, it did get a Gigantamax form. Gigantamax Butterfree's Max Battle Day is set for August 3, 2025 at 2:00pm to 5:00pm local. Since this is Gigantamax Butterfree's debut, it's hard to tell when it will return in GO. Unfortunately for poor Butterfree, its stats and moves pale in comparison to the recently-released Dynamax Latios and Dynamax Latias. Between Gigantamax Butterfree and the Eon Duo, you may want to go for the Dynamax Latios/Latias if you want stronger Dynamax Pokemon.
Pokemon GO’s Sweet Swarm Event is Setting Some Players Up for Disappointment
The Sweet Swarm event is coming to Pokemon GO wickedly soon, and it carries one caveat that might make it a little bit underwhelming for some.
Missing Gigantamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO (July 2025)
Although fans have speculated which Gigantamax Pokemon will appear next, Pokemon GO is still missing more than a couple of species. However, it's likely this won't remain for long thanks to the existence of Max Raid Days. The following Gigantamax Pokemon are still missing from GO as of July 2025:
- Gigantamax Pikachu
- Gigantamax Eevee
- Gigantamax Meowth
- Gigantamax Melmetal
- Gigantamax Garbodor
- Gigantamax Flapple/Appletun
- Gigantamax Corviknight
- Gigantamax Orbeetle
- Gigantamax Drednaw
- Gigantamax Coalossal
- Gigantamax Sandaconda
- Gigantamax Centiskorch
- Gigantamax Alcremie
- Gigantamax Hatterene
- Gigantamax Grimmsnarl
- Gigantamax Copperajah
- Gigantamax Duraludon
- Gigantamax Urshifu (Single Strike and Rapid Strike)
It should be noted that while some Pokemon like Hatterene and Centiskorch are in Pokemon GO, that doesn't mean their Gigantamax forms can be caught just yet. There are also Pokemon that haven't been added to GO (July 2025) at all, such as Alcremie and Sandaconda. Although when they are added, it's likely their Gigantamax versions will be slowly added to the roster over the years.
