The progression system in FBC: Firebreak is fairly straightforward. Apart from leveling up through an XP-based system that's tied to mission completion, players also get to unlock equipment, gear upgrades, and perks through purchases using in-game Currency, if you could even call these that.

In FBC: Firebreak, players can collect folders of lost data and valuable scientific research samples during a mission, and they can surrender those in exchange for equipment and perks. Getting these samples is a little confusing at first, but once you know what to do, you'll be swimming in resources in no time.

All Currencies in FBC: Firebreak

FBC: Firebreak All Research Samples

Currencies (known either as Lost Assets or Research Samples) refer to the pickups players can find while playing through a job in FBC: Firebreak. They can be found in random locations all throughout a job site, though there are a few ways to make finding them easier:

  • Research Samples and Lost Assets emit a humming sound that intensifies as you get closer.
  • Lost Assets have a high chance of spawning inside Shelters.
  • Powerful (named) enemies always drop Lost Assets on death.
  • The third section of a Containment 3 job tends to have more Research Samples.

Lost Assets

Lost Assets are the main form of currency used to unlock and upgrade equipment and player perks. They appear as either individual folders or cases full of many classified files and documents. You'll be needing tons of these in the long run regardless of your preferred playstyle, and thankfully, they're relatively easy to come by. As mentioned, searching Shelters and defeating Powerful Hiss are great ways to get Lost Assets, and if you're perceptive enough, you'll be able to find even more just lying around a level.

Research Samples

Research Samples function mostly the same as Lost Assets — they appear randomly all over a map, but they don't drop from enemies, and they rarely appear in Shelters (if at all). They still emit a humming noise, though, and there's plenty of them to find in a mission.

Additionally, Research Samples come in different forms, and they only drop from specific missions, so if you want to unlock and upgrade all the perks, you'll need to finish all the missions multiple times.
