The Alien franchise has been a bit of a mixed bag for the last three decades. While the first Alien was a monumentally influential movie, and its James Cameron-led follow-up, Aliens, was almost just as groundbreaking, 1992's Alien 3 marked the start of a downward spiral for the Sci-Fi franchise. Even series creator Ridley Scott's return couldn't save Alien, with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant receiving middling receptions. But then along came Alien: Romulus.
Hitting theaters just a few weeks ago, Alien: Romulus has been something of a return to form for the long-running franchise, taking the best parts of Alien and Aliens and merging them together to create a new and thrilling adventure with plenty of fan-service. It's fair to say that Alien: Romulus has reinvigorated many fans' love for the Alien franchise, and if those fans are looking for another quick hit of nostalgia and horror, they might want to turn their attention to Dead by Daylight.
Alien: Romulus - 8 New Things It Brings To The Franchise
From new developments regarding the Facehuggers to thrilling zero-gravity scenes, Alien: Romulus boasts new ideas for the iconic Xenomorph franchise.
Alien: Romulus Fans Need to Check Out Dead by Daylight
Dead by Daylight Has a Whole Alien Chapter Ready and Waiting
Released almost exactly a year ago, Dead by Daylight's 29th Chapter is dedicated to the Alien franchise. Being a full-length Chapter, this paid DLC comes with a brand new Killer, Survivor, some themed cosmetics, and even an entire map based on Ridley Scott's 1979 Alien.
Taking center stage as the DLC's Killer, the Xenomorph packed a brutal punch at launch with its fast-hitting Tail Strike special attack, and its ability to dive underground and use a network of tunnels to track Survivors' footprints and quickly reach generator locations on the other side of the map. Survivors can knock the Xenomorph out of its powerful Crawler Mode by setting up some Remote Flame Turrets in the map's most important areas.
But the Xenomorph didn't take the Alien Chapter's spotlight for itself. This Dead by Daylight crossover DLC also added Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley to the horror game as a Survivor. Though she wasn't the most powerful Survivor in Dead by Daylight history, Ripley still came with some great Perks, including the Chemical Trap Perk that allows her to inflict the Hindered status effect on any Killer who destroys a pallet with the trap attached.
Another key highlight of Dead by Daylight's Alien Chapter is its Nostromo Wreckage map, which can be enjoyed by all players regardless of whether they own the DLC or not. As the name implies, this map has players running through the wreckage of the first Alien's iconic cargo ship, which has crash-landed on an unknown alien planet that closely resembles LV-426. This map is packed with references, including steam pipe traps, Facehugger jump-scares, and Ripley's cat Jonesy hiding in a locker.
Dead by Daylight Has Just Added Alien: Romulus Content
Just in case all that Alien content mentioned above wasn't enough, Dead by Daylight has just added a brand new cosmetic based on the recently released Alien: Romulus. This new Legendary outfit gives Dead by Daylight's Ellen Ripley a complete visual makeover, turning her into Cailee Spaeny's Rain Carradine from Alien: Romulus. This new appearance comes equipped with Spaeny's likeness, and the character's in-movie outfit, depicting her wearing a Weyland-Yutani work shirt and cargo pants.
