Alan Wake 2 sees the titular writer return after a 13-year gap, picking up from the supernatural events of the first title in full force. With the sequel being a full survival horror experience, players will see themselves engaging with a number of elements that the genre usually includes, including key hunting and puzzle solving. One of the classic items in Alan Wake 2 that will likely be very familiar to fans of survival horror titles are the bolt cutters. This useful tool will allow players to access previously locked areas and other secrets. However, they also require a bit of work to find. Turn On the Generator in the Bunker Overlap
During the course of Saga's Chapter 5: Old Gods, players will be visiting the Valhalla Nursing Home in search of Tor Anderson. After completing the main objectives in and around the home, players will enter another Overlap and will find themselves in an old abandoned bunker. As they navigate this eerie place, players will shortly come across a generator guarded by a Taken. After killing it, they can interact with the generator to power on the bunker.
Once it is up and running, players will notice a red light switch on the side of the wall just inside the room before the generator. Flip it on, and Saga will comment that the lights removed a nearby wall. Indeed, there is now a grated door in front of her, and players should head through it.
Navigate The Looping Rooms
The door will lead into a room with rusty bunk beds and growing vegetation. A vision of Alan Wake will appear as Saga enters to offer some words of advice. Exit this room at the back, and just past it to the left will be a wall of graffiti with a colorful rendition of the words Oceanview Hotel, which is a location players may have already encountered previously.
Players then should take a right from this wall and keep following the hallway. As they continue around the narrow corridor, they will see ominous warnings to "Beware the Drowned Lady."
Pushing on, players will likely notice that the rooms begin to repeat and loop, and Saga will comment on this as well. To escape, players will want to turn around at any dead ends and keep following the numbers 1-5 on the bunker walls and doors until reaching a short set of stairs.
If unsure or lost, follow the bunker numbers marked 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc., in ascending order until reaching these stairs.
Find The Tool Cabinet Key
Heading up, players will see a tool cabinet. This is where the bolt cutters are stored. However, they cannot be acquired yet as the cabinet needs a key.
Next to the cabinet is a red light switch like the one near the generator. Flip it on and proceed into the following room, which appears to be a control center for the bunker. At the back of this room, there is yet another light switch. Activate this third switch, and the room will slightly change.
There are now some cabinets in the corners containing a few supplies, but players will want to focus on a table with a drawer on the far right wall. Inside will be the tool cabinet key.
With the key in hand, players can return to the cabinet locker by the previous switch, open it, and pick up the bolt cutters.
Doing so will also unlock the Cut Short Trophy/Achievement. Players can now make use of this versatile tool to proceed to the next part of the chapter, as well as utilize it for some other of Alan Wake 2's puzzles and secrets.
