The end of Saga's fifth chapter in Alan Wake 2 will have her pursue her grandfather, Tor, into the Overlap in an attempt to save him from a local Bright Falls resident who has cast a spell on Tor. After navigating through looping, water-logged tunnels players will eventually have to go toe to toe with this witch, known as Cynthia, the Drowned Lady. Players will have to deal directly with Cynthia in two parts, here are some tips to easily beat Chapter 5 of the story Return in Alan Wake 2.
Alan Wake 2: Tips on How to Defeat Mulligan and Thornton
Quickly destroy the orbs of light and take down the cultists Mulligan and Thornton in the finale of Return: Chapter 3 in Alan Wake 2.
First Stage
Right as players catch up with Tor in the Overlap, Saga will be entering a large circular room - the moment Saga enters the room the lights will click off and Tor will disappear. There is a terminal in the center of the room that can be used to turn the lights back on, however, players will first have to find the generator to restore the power to the area. Saga will be forced to interact with the power button initially, doing so will cause the Drowned Lady, Cynthia, to spawn and begin chasing players through the flooded areas. At this point, Cynthia cannot be damaged, and players will want to focus on navigating to the generator in the back hallway over fighting, although if players get caught by Cynthia they can push her back by dealing a large burst of damage with the shotgun, a flare, or an explosive canister.
As players leave the power console and step into the water Cynthia will be alerted - if Saga spends too much time wading through the water the Drowned Lady will begin her pursuit and if she can catch up to Saga she will attempt to drag Saga underwater for an inescapable instant death. There are rocks and metal platforms scattered throughout the area that players will want to take advantage of to get Saga out of the water and halt Cynthia's chase. From the center terminal, players will want to head towards the back of the room, away from where Cynthia initially spawned, looking for a pathway through the wall into the back hallway.
Follow the back hallway to the left, alternating between the rocks and metal platforms to stay out of the water and away from Cynthia. Along the back wall players will occasionally find a staircase that will lead up to a small store room with ammo and healing items - be sure to search these areas to gear up as much as possible for the upcoming battle. At the very end of the back hallway there will be a chain link fence with a broken area - climb through the fence at the broken area to find the generator. Interact with the generator and crank it to restore power, then return to the main power console and press the button to end the first stage. There is a shortcut players can take from the tall platform directly across from the hole in the fence - at the top of the platform there is a hole that leads back to the main room with the power button.
Defeating Cynthia
Once the power is restored and the light is turned back on, players can progress down the next staircase and into the final fight against Cynthia. Walk downstairs and follow the room around - right when Saga is approaching the underside of the stairs the lights will turn off, the room will change, and Cynthia will crawl out of the water. Use this initial moment to launch a flare at Cynthia, stunning her and revealing her Source. Once she gains her composure and moves to attack begin moving around the room to get obstacles between Saga and Cynthia as Cynthia can launch dark projectiles that deal large amounts of damage and knock Saga to the ground - use the environment and Saga's dodge capability to avoid these blasts.
Once Cynthia's Source is revealed, use the crossbow and fire as many shots directly into her source as possible. Use the flashlight charge attack to stun Cynthia and cause her to shield herself from the light for a moment, allowing time to line up a shot on her Source. Upgrading the crossbow with the ability to fire two bolts before reloading is incredibly advantageous for this boss fight.
Once Cynthia receives enough damage, she will go into a frenzied stage and begin sprinting around and slashing at Saga. Try to connect another few crossbow shots if possible, then when Cynthia comes in close switch to the shotgun and blast her. Cynthia's health is already low when she transitions to her frenzy, but if players cannot hit her with the crossbow at this point blast her a few extra times with the shotgun to put her down.
Once Cynthia is dispatched, quickly run to her body and recover any crossbow bolts available, players will have a few short moments to collect any items in the area before the chapter ends and a cutscene begins, teleporting players out of the Overlap.
