Alan Wake 2 seems to be implementing a New Game Plus mode in the near future. These modes typically offer players who have completed a game an opportunity to replay its story, but with new twists that make the game more difficult or interesting. However, Alan Wake 2's New Game Plus mode seems to be adding more than the typical features.

The survival-horror game released in October of this year to widespread acclaim, so much so that Alan Wake 2 is one of the favorites to win this year's Best Narrative category at The Game Awards. Due to its intriguing single-player experience, fans have been clamoring for a New Game Plus mode to give them a reason to dive back into the game.

Why Alan Wake 2 Fans Should Keep an Eye on Alone In the Dark (2024)

Alan Wake 2 has proven to be a big success, and fans craving similar games should take note of the upcoming Alone in the Dark title.

Remedy Entertainment, the developer behind Alan Wake 2, has teased the addition of a New Game Plus mode since the game launched, but it looks like the mode will be added sooner rather than later. In a tweet made to Alan Wake 2's Twitter account, the developer seems to be hinting that its New Game Plus mode will be added sometime this month.

Shortly before the game was released, Remedy Entertainment detailed what Alan Wake 2's New Game Plus mode would consist of. In keeping with most New Game Plus modes from other developers, Alan Wake 2's mode will allow players to retain all weapons and upgrades as they transition to their New Game Plus playthrough, and will also unlock a new Nightmare difficulty level for players to overcome. But, more intriguingly, the mode will also feature an alternative narrative, including new manuscript pages and video content for Alan Wake fans to uncover.

The Alan Wake franchise is no stranger to making interesting and bold design choices. While its first game was mainly an action-adventure game, Alan Wake 2 made a big jump to the survival-horror genre. With the first Alan Wake already being a tried-and-true, successful product, this was a brave move that has obviously paid off for Remedy Entertainment.

While Alan Wake 3 has not been announced yet, fans of the franchise can be excited to know that Remedy Entertainment will likely continue to take the series in interesting new directions. Fans have already begun to speculate how Alan Wake 2's Saga Anderson will fit into the next game. However, with the 13 years between Alan Wake and Alan Wake 2's releases, a third entry is probably still a ways out.

A string of ritualistic murders threatens Bright Falls, a small-town community surrounded by Pacific Northwest wilderness. Saga Anderson, an accomplished FBI agent with a reputation for solving impossible cases arrives to investigate the murders. Anderson’s case spirals into a nightmare when she discovers pages of a horror story that starts to come true around her.

Alan Wake, a lost writer trapped in a nightmare beyond our world, writes a dark story in an attempt to shape the reality around him and escape his prison. With a dark horror hunting him, Wake is trying to retain his sanity and beat the devil at his own game.

Anderson and Wake are two heroes on two desperate journeys in two separate realities, connected at heart in ways neither of them can understand: reflecting each other, echoing each other, and affecting the worlds around them.

Fueled by the horror story, supernatural darkness invades Bright Falls, corrupting the locals and threatening the loved ones of both Anderson and Wake. Light is their weapon—and their safe haven — against the darkness they face. Trapped in a sinister horror story where there are only victims and monsters, can they break out to be the heroes they need to be?
