Players have come across obstacles that prevent them from progressing in the story. In fact, there is one obstacle at the very start of the game: a parking lot gate. The parking lot in Cauldron Lake at the start of the game separates the woods from the parking space, and this guide will explain how Alan Wake 2 players can access this space with ease.

How to Get to the Parking Lot in Alan Wake 2

A padlock secures the parking lot gate, meaning that players need a key to open it. Keeping this in mind, players need to follow these simple steps to get the key and access the parking space:

  1. Head down the trail with Casey to find Sheriff Breaker at the entrance through the fence.
  2. Complete the investigation of the murder before Return 1.
  3. After the investigation is complete, the body will be moved to the morgue.
  4. Return to the site of the murder.
  5. After a short dialogue with Sheriff Thornton, the player will receive the key to the parking lot gate.
  6. Now, players can use the key to unlock the parking lot gate.

How to Complete the Murder Investigation

To complete the murder investigation for the key to the parking lot gate, players can follow these steps:

  1. Head to the murder site behind the general store in Cauldron Lake.
  2. Examine the body to find the first clue.
  3. Interact with the Case board in the Mind place to look for the first clue, the key image from the investigation.
  4. Once a new investigation has been created, examine the corpse for clues.
  5. Return to the Case board and add the clues to the board.
  6. After adding the clues to the Case board, investigate the murder site and the surrounding area to find the following clues: - A pool of blood next to the body. - Footprints on the ground. - Examine the tripod and blue container on the table.
  7. Return to the Case board and add the new clues.
  8. Talk to Deputy Thornton to learn about the victim and to get a new clue.
  9. Talk to Casey and exhaust all dialogue options.
  10. Return to the Case board and add the clues from the recent conversations.
  11. Clues locked before will now be available to add to the Case board.
  12. Click on the last yellow card for a cutscene.
  13. After following the steps correctly, Saga can talk to Casey and decide to investigate the area around the lake.
  14. Head to the Witch’s Ladle with Casey and examine the large tree to find a clue.
  15. Return to the Mind place and access the Profiling table to find a new yellow card. This card will cause Saga to determine that there is a clue in the victim’s chest.
  16. Transfer all the clues to the Case board and return to the murder site to talk to Thornton about moving the body to the morgue.
  17. Thornton will provide a shortcut key for the parking lot gate.
