Alan Wake 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 2010 psychological horror title, was released in October 2023. The game follows two interconnected storylines involving best-selling novelist Alan Wake, who has been trapped in an alternate dimension for over a decade, and an FBI agent named Saga Anderson. Alan Wake 2 was met with enthusiasm from both players and critics, selling over 1.3 million units by February 2024 and being nominated for multiple Game of the Year awards. Following this success, developer Remedy Entertainment released the first DLC expansion for Alan Wake 2, Night Springs, expanding the story with three extra episodes. A second DLC, The Lake House, is set to release on October 22.

Through the Gameplay Assist menu, players can now invert both the vertical and horizontal axis on mouse and controller, opt for accessibility options like infinite ammo or player immortality, choose to autocomplete QTE, or enable quick turn to face another direction faster. This free first-anniversary update for Alan Wake 2 will be available on October 22, the same day as The Lake House DLC.

On top of these changes, PlayStation users can find a variety of improvements by utilizing the DualSense controller. The Alan Wake 2 anniversary update will bring gyro aiming support as well as haptic feedback for healing items and throwables, on top of the already existing haptic support for weapons. A variety of options for the DualSense will also be available through the game’s menu, such as the ability to turn the motion sensor function on and off, tweak horizontal and vertical sensitivity, set gyro space, and choose whether the pitch, yaw, and roll directions are standard or inverted.

Launching alongside the free update is The Lake House DLC for Alan Wake 2, the game’s second major DLC expansion. The Lake House will take place alongside Alan Wake 2’s main story, with players taking control of FBC agent Kiran Estevez as she investigates the Lake House, a research facility filled with new enemies to face.

A string of ritualistic murders threatens Bright Falls, a small-town community surrounded by Pacific Northwest wilderness. Anderson and Wake are two heroes on two desperate journeys in two separate realities, connected at heart in ways neither of them can understand: reflecting each other, echoing each other, and affecting the worlds around them.

Fueled by the horror story, supernatural darkness invades Bright Falls, corrupting the locals and threatening the loved ones of both Anderson and Wake. Light is their weapon—and their safe haven — against the darkness they face.
