Alan Wake 2 sees the titular writer returning after a long hiatus to once again face off against the Dark Presence and escape the Dark Place. He is joined by a new protagonist, FBI Agent Saga Anderson. One of the earlier mysteries Saga uncovers in her investigation of Caldron Lake encounter is a gruesome killing, where a body has been strapped down and mutilated in the woods, apparently in a ritualistic cult killing. After being informed by the local authorities, it is up to Sara and partner Alex Casey to put together the clues to track down the cult committing these heinous acts.

Hidden around the various areas are stashes left by this cult that contain useful items like ammo or health to aid Saga on her adventure. These stashes often see players needing to find a key or solve a riddle to access them. They may require players to use a little intuition and some backtracking to collect. Early on in the chapter titled Return 1: Invitation, players will get a taste of how these stashes work and their chance to solve the first one, as outlined below.

How to Solve Alan Wake 2's Crime Scene Cult Stash (Follow These Steps)

Alan Wake 2 has players solving a string of investigations that only increase in weirdness and complexity as they unfold. During the course of events, Saga and Alex will be investigating the initial crime scene where the victim's body was left in the Caldron Lake area.

A little southwest of the murder site, there is a picnic table, and just behind it, there is a locked cooler with a series of three triangle symbols on the lock. This is likely the first stash players will come across in Alan Wake 2, whose location can be seen on the map below:

Examining the note on the cooler with provide a clue for a list of steps:

Wash your hands
Take the chicken out of the fridge
Take a nap

The player will see a cabin near the table and the cooler that is in a state of disarray. Upon entering, players will see a series of strange red triangle symbols painted throughout the walls and other objects. Using the clue provided by the note on the cooler, players will be able to find the correct symbols corresponding to the locations the ones the cooler points to that are needed to unlock it.

For clarity, players will need to look near the sink, the refrigerator, and the bed in the back of the cabin. Putting all the pieces together and going in order of the three clues, players will notice the following inside:

The first symbol is just above the sink.

After finding that one, players can look to the side of the refrigerator and notice the second symbol:

The second symbol is on the right side of the fridge.

For the final symbol, players will need to head into the back room of the cabin, where a bed is in a corner, and above it will be the last symbol needed for the combination.

Once players have discovered all three symbols, they can head back to the cooler, enter the code by matching each symbol from top to bottom, and unlock the stash. This one contains some batteries and bandages. After collecting the items, players will be free to continue to explore the area some more or proceed with the main objective of examining the body at the murder site.
