Summary

  • ANA Airways' new safety video featuring Pokemon is both charming and informative, integrating beloved Pokemon characters into every step.
  • This creative use of Pokemon in the safety video is just one example of how airlines are capitalizing on the popularity of the franchise to engage fans.
  • Pokemon's influence extends beyond ANA Airways, with other airlines around the world also incorporating Pokemon into their branding and customer experience.

ANA Airways, aka All Nippon Airways, has introduced a new safety video for its planes that features the Pokemon series. The charming video is designed to introduce passengers to everything they need to know for their safety and well-being aboard the plane, but the airline has also released it online for fans of the Pokemon series to enjoy.

Pokemon and ANA Airways have a history together, with the planes having preivously showcased the Pokemon series. These displays range from Pokemon art on the side of the plane to onboard inclusion of Pokemon designs, like on napkins and seatcovers, but this safety video takes it a step further by including Pokemon to spice up what could otherwise be dull.

Airline Uses Pokemon to Explain Safety Onboard

ANA Airway's new Pokemon plane safety video is charming and introduces the plane's safety features and requirements to passengers in both Japanese and English. The video incorporates individual Pokemon into almost every step they introduce. For example, Jigglypuff warns a rider to not smoke on the plane, Machamp introduces how to properly secure and remove a seatbelt, and Farfetch'd shows how to properly stow things in the overhead compartments so no one gets hurt from falling luggage when it re-opens.

Pokemon are even integrated into the evacuation directions for the planes. Pokemon and shown piling up while a person foolishly tries to take photographs following an emergency landing, and Floragato demonstrates how to properly go down the inflated evacuation slide to avoid injury or damaging it. Pikachu is of course present, along with Pichu, who is adorably offered an infant-sized life vest during the same demonstration. Psyduck is one of the last Pokemon to be featured, with the airway using its iconic headaches and troubled character to demonstrate that passengers can easily get assistance if they have a problem or need to ask a question.

This particular use of Pokemon is cute and clever, and will likely help fans of the series to remain focused on the video while it's showing what to do. However, ANA Airways isn't the only airline to feature Pokemon these days. Singapore Airlines, AirDo, and China Airlines have all featured Pokemon in some shape or form over the years. It just goes to show how far-reaching and lasting the popularity of Pokemon is to the point that it can even influence potential customers to choose one airline over another because of their affiliation with the Nintendo series.
