AEW wrestler Kenny Omega is promising more content for AEW Fight Forever, including more playable characters and match types. It has been nearly three years since All Elite Wrestling’s answer to the WWE 2K series was first announced, with longtime wrestling sim developer Yukes lending its decades of in-ring experience to Fight Forever’s more retro-style gameplay. Responses to AEW Fight Forever have been rather mixed so far, with some fans praising the game’s simpler and more nostalgic feel and others decrying its many technical issues on PS4 and lack of features in comparison to WWE 2K23.
One of the biggest figures involved in AEW Fight Forever’s long and at times troubled development process has been Kenny Omega. The in-ring performer and executive vice president of All Elite Wrestling has made his fondness for gaming readily apparent over the years, and it was through him that many of AEW Fight Forever’s defining features were unveiled. Even after Fight Forever's release, Kenny Omega has actively encouraged continued discussions and feedback on the game and its many divisive aspects.
In a recent interview with Uproxx, Kenny Omega discussed AEW Fight Forever and promised that more content would be coming soon. One of the things he confirmed was Fight Forever’s Stadium Stampede mode, a new multiplayer battle royale match type that was leaked shortly after launch. He also hinted at more customization options for the game’s character creation suite and additional wrestlers, though he remained tight-lipped on the details. "There is always going to be additions to this game," Omega stated during the interview. “You haven't seen anything yet. You've seen a little bit, but you haven't seen a lot of things that I'm very excited for.”
As for which existing wrestlers could be added to AEW Fight Forever, Kenny Omega hinted at representation from Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. So far, six post-launch DLC wrestlers have been confirmed, including current AEW Tag Team Champions Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood. These wrestlers will be added to Fight Forever’s roster in the upcoming "Elite Edition" expansion.
AEW Fight Forever has been seen as a promising first attempt for the young wrestling promotion and a fun throwback to classic wrestling games like WWF No Mercy, but most agree that there is still room for improvement. Luckily, THQ seems to be adding more to the game post-launch, with Kenny Omega hinting at some truly exciting things like Stadium Stampede and crossovers with Ring of Honor and NJPW in Fight Forever’s future.
AEW Fight Forever is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
