Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is known in the gaming industry for developing action-adventure video games. Its portfolio includes titles like the Yakuza games, Judgment, and Binary Domain. Established and operating from Japan, the studio is a subsidiary of Sega, a name that needs no introduction in the world of gaming. The game in question is part of the company's Like a Dragon series, which is better known in the US by its title of Yakuza.
Like a Dragon: Ishin! Is a spin-off from the well-known Like a Dragon series. It takes players on a journey through the 1860s Bakumatsu era in Japan. The protagonist is Sakamoto Ryoma, a low-ranking samurai that sets out to avenge his adoptive father. This requires challenging the samurai rule, which brings its own issues. He has access to four distinctive fighting styles: Swordsman, Gunman, Brawler, and Wild Dancer. Each of these styles offer a unique gameplay experience.
The game has a Virtue system, which allows players to gain abilities in exchange for points earned through various tasks. In the game, players can roam various areas of the then-capital city of Japan, Ryo. In addition to exploring areas, the game offers a side activities like gambling and karaoke at the Singing Bar.
