Fans of sound-based sci-fi terror rejoice! A Quiet Place Part III just got a couple of very promising updates. The next entry in the sci-fi franchise that made silence imperative to survival has already set its release date, and there is even more good behind-the-scenes news. A Quiet Place has quickly become one of the best new sci-fi franchises in a long time, with three critically acclaimed entries (one of them being a prequel spinoff) under its belt.
The first entry in the Quiet Place franchise hit theaters all the way back in 2018. On a budget of just $17 million, it made $341 million worldwide, making it a certified hit and spawning what may be the best new alien franchise since, well, Alien. John Krasinski, still best known at the time for playing Jim on The Office, proved his horror-directing bona fides, and is set to do even more on the next movie.
A Quiet Place Is A Good Movie But Not A Good Franchise
A Quiet Place tells a genuinely scary and sad story in a post-apocalyptic world, but there are some problems with the horror franchise.
A Quiet Place Part III is scheduled to release on July 9, 2027
The Sequel Will be Written, Directed, and Produced by John Krasinski
Deadline reports that John Krasinski will once again return to the director's chair for A Quiet Place Part III. That should surprise no one after the success of the previous two mainline entries in the franchise. Like he did on A Quiet Place Part II, Krasinski will also write the script and co-produce with Platinum Dunes through his and Allyson Seeger's Sunday Night Productions. The movie is already on the summer 2027 schedule with an expected release date of July 9th, planting it firmly in summer blockbuster territory.
There's no telling where the story might go from where things left off in the previous movie. A Quiet Place Part II appeared to end with a solution to defeating the alien monsters, which one might imagine leading to a Mars Attacks!-style montage of aliens being killed while their super-hearing is overloaded by feedback. However, with humanity so diminished and separated from one another, there are sure to still be groups who haven't figured out how to fight back yet. There are no cast members attached currently, but since this is a 'Part III,' it's likely to follow the Abbott family once again. The next question would be whether Cillian Murphy will return as Emmett, and how many new faces could also be joining the cast.
Regardless of where the story goes, A Quiet Place has cemented itself as a modern franchise that has seen nothing but success. A Quiet Place Part II was able to make just shy of $300 million worldwide releasing in 2021, a year when plenty of other movies faced box office struggles due to the pandemic. A Quiet Place has also made its way in the realm of video games, with A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, a survival horror game set before the events of the first movie. Unlike the three movies, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead faced mixed reviews, sitting at a score of 67 on Metacritic. Regardless, news of yet another entry in this celebrated sci-fi franchise is likely to get people talking (but hopefully not too loudly).
