This decision is important as the number of knives found in a single playthrough is determined according to the game's difficulty. In a narrative difficulty, which is the balanced one, you will stumble upon 16 knives to open the available secret chests found throughout the game. Although there are 10 chests, players will have extra knives in case they miss some of them. Keep in mind that the higher the difficulty of A Plague Tale: Requiem, the fewer knives become available.

Where To Find All Secret Chests In A Plague Tale: Requiem

There are a total of 10 secret chests in A Plague Tale: Requiem, the first one being in chapter 3 and the final one in chapter 13. Keep in mind that each chest can only be opened by sacrificing a knife.

Secret Chest #1 (Chapter 3)

The first secret chest can be found at the end of the third chapter, A Burden of Blood. After Amicia and Lucas break free and sneak into the enemies’ depot to look for Nightshade. The secret chest is found on the lowest floor in the right corner of the room, across Amicia’s lost items.

Secret Chest #3 (Chapter 5)

Once the boat gets blocked by a mechanism in chapter five in A Plague Tale: Requiem, Amicia travels alone to the other side to fix it. She’ll shoot a loose chain that’ll break the railings. Go around the building and climb the ladder to find the third secret chest.

Secret Chest #4 (Chapter 6)

In chapter six, Amicia and Hugo will run away from the guards in A Plague Tale: Requiem, and eventually, find a safe space to rest. After Amicia starts to feel dizzy because of the head injury, walk forward and crouch under the shelves to find the fourth secret chest.

After clearing out the enemy camp, players are tasked with finding the smuggler’s hideout in chapter seven. From the pile of Episanguis, move forward and leap down while minding the rats. Go to the right side and crouch under the plank to find the fifth secret chest.

Secret Chest #6 (Chapter 9-10)

While exploring the island with Hugo and Sophia in chapter nine, the group will come across a hidden puzzle on the ground in A Plague Tale: Requiem that’ll lead them to another area. After crossing a bridge, head to the tower on the left and break the door’s lock from the small window. Climb two ladders to reach the third floor where the sixth secret chest is.

If players missed it in chapter nine, the chest can be found in the next chapter. At the very beginning of chapter 10, after descending the slope, the same tower can be seen to the right. Also, if there’s no knife in possession, one can be found on the lowest floor of the tower behind a closed door.

Secret Chest #7 (Chapter 9)

In the same chapter in A Plague Tale: Requiem, there is another secret chest. Right before entering the sanctuary, climb the cliff to the left and approach the seventh secret chest. If players are trying to get 100% completion, then don't worry about grabbing both secret chests on chapter 9. Doing this task on the next replay counts for the achievement too.

Secret Chest #8 (Chapter 10)

Upon reuniting again with Sophia after infiltrating the enemy’s camp in chapter 10, Amicia will learn that the smuggler can use her prism stone to reflect light, protecting them from the rats. Use the sling to light the bonfire ahead, and ask Sophia to open up a path. When the building is near, keep the prism stone activated and walk backward into the building. Go to the second floor to open the eighth secret chest.

Secret Chest #9 (Chapter 11)

After gaining access to the secret cave, where Basilius was being held, Amicia will have to go on her own at some point to fix the bridge. Upon reaching the second chain, get out between the narrow opening and enter the room to the left to see the ninth secret chest.

Secret Chest #10 (Chapter 13)

In chapter 13, right before going in to save Arnaud from the count’s soldiers, place the wooden box on the left wall and climb the destroyed building. Enter through the door next to the bed to find the tenth and final secret chest on the right side.

All Knives Location In A Plague Tale: Requiem

Here's where to find all 16 knives during a narrative playthrough in A Plague Tale: Requiem. Keep in mind that it's possible to find multiple knives in one chapter or none at all :

Chapter	Location
Chapter 4: Protector’s Duty	Before engaging in a battle in the docks, when trying to reach the order's boat, pick up a knife from the wooden platform. A knife will be plunged into a tree stump in the middle of the battle area.
Chapter 5: In Our Wake	When trying to cross the construction site by lighting the fire braziers, head to the nearby ladder and aim at the chains to bring it down. Climb it and pick up the knife from the top of the barrel inside the destroyed shed. After acquiring a Crossbow, you will find a knife on a fallen tree log beside an arrow.
Chapter 6: Leaving all Behind	Upon escaping/fighting some enemies, Amicia gets hurt and enters an old building. A knife can be found on one of the mine carts. After escaping the old building and going outside, pick up a knife from one of the ledges. When controlling the rats near the end of the chapter, move them away from one of the circular ponds on the right side of the area to grab a knife.
Chapter 7: Felons	Enter the small shack on the beach to find a knife on the bed. On the way to Sophia's boat, pick up a knife next to a shipwreck on the beach.
Chapter 9: Tales and Revelations	While exploring the areas where there are bird statues, head to the destroyed tower on the left and open it to grab a knife from inside, on top of a destroyed barrel.
Chapter 10: Bloodline	When sneaking around with Hugo, enter a torture chamber to find a knife. After Sophia kills Milo, a fight will soon break out, so make sure to pick up the nearby knife before fighting anyone.
Chapter 11: The Cradle of Centuries	When players are exploring an underground area, grab a knife from the right side (near a skeleton) after blasting open one of the gates.
Chapter 13: Nothing Left	While sneaking around in an enemy area, head left towards the cliff to pick up a knife from a fallen cart. Once Hugo decides to save Arnaud, go left through a house to find a wooden table with a knife on it. After killing enemies in the previous area, keep going to the next area to find a house. Climb the wooden platform, then jump down to the left to see the final knife a bit to the left.
