Riot Games is known for creating some of the most popular games on the planet. League of Legends dominates the MOBA space, Valorant has conquered the FPS world, and even after all the success they have had, they are not done with new projects in uncharted waters. That's where 2XKO comes in, the latest game from the developer that looks to bring the Runeterra universe to the fighting game genre.
However, as exciting as the idea is, many players may have reservations surrounding the release. LoL isn't exactly known for being the most accessible, friendly, or polished game out there. With that said, there are still plenty of reasons that players should get excited about 2XKO, even if they don't have as much appreciation for Riot's premier IP.
All 2XKO Characters (& How to Unlock Them)
Riot Games' 2XKO has 11 fighters in early access. Here’s how to unlock them and a quick look at each champion’s attacks and playstyle.
It's Nothing Like League
Same Universe, Completely Different Genre
Despite having a cast of characters that come directly from the League universe , 2XKO couldn't be anything further from a competitive MOBA. The game is a tag fighter through and through. It makes use of existing abilities and movesets of the champions, but swaps out the tactical map play for head-on combat.
The reason this is important is that many people may enjoy the concept of the League world and the characters within it, but the game itself is far from the image that is presented to players in the cinematics and trailers. 2XKO, on the other hand, allows players to step into the shoes of their favorite champions and feel closer to the action than ever, in a completely different environment.
A Fresh New Fighting Game
Things Are Just Getting Started
One important thing to remember is that 2XKO hasn't been in the works for decades or developed over the course of a long time frame. The game is brand new, and with that fact comes the benefits of rapid content additions and a good amount of community hype, a lot of which is driven by the IP itself.
8 League Of Legends Characters That Need To Be In 2XKO
With Riot's free-to-play fighting game 2XKO on the horizon, these are a handful of League of Legends champions who would make perfect roster additions
This means that players get to enjoy a fresh new game, with the backing of a hugely successful company, which ensures that this won't be a quick cash-grab and should have just as much staying power as any other Riot product. So for players who might like the idea of fast patches and content drops but can't stand LoL, 2XKO could be exactly what they've been looking for.
Way Easier To Learn
Just Combos And Matchups To Pick Up
MOBAs are notorious for their complexity, and League is no exception. While it might not have as much depth as something like Dota 2, there is still a lot to learn. There are over 170 different champions, countless items, and a lifetime's worth of knowledge that can only be learned by playing the game for 100s of hours.
2XKO, on the other hand, is easier to understand at a basic level. Most people will have played a fighting game at some point in their lives, so picking up the controls will be far quicker. And for players who dropped League after a few games due to the lack of in-game learning resources, 2XKO has plenty of tutorials for getting people up to speed, regardless of whether they are new to fighters or not.
More Polished
A Brand New Game On A Brand New Engine
After 15 years of updates, the League client has ended up in a pretty broken state. Oftentimes, it will either crash, freeze, not load, or a combination of all three, which has led many players to be as frustrated with the program as the game itself.
Thankfully, 2XKO is being developed on its very own client. It may still be launched from the core Riot one, but it should mean that a lot of the bugs and problems won't translate over. Players who may have a hatred for the poorly kept nature of the League client can rest assured that 2XKO should be mostly free of those otherwise avoidable issues.
New Community
Moving Away From The Toxicity
Whether it's because of the MOBA format, the gameplay, or another reason entirely, the LoL community has become widely associated with toxic behavior, both in chat and in gameplay. It is almost a daily occurrence that at least one player will throw out some abuse or intentionally feed the game to cause as much disruption for the rest of the team as possible.
What do Champion Tokens do in 2XKO?
What are Champion Tokens in 2XKO, and how can players get more Champion Tokens?
Because 2XKO is a co-op fighter, however, players will be more interested in working together than hurling abuse. Also, many players will likely queue up with a friend, which means that they won't be flaming each other nearly as much, and players will still have the same punishments in place for those moments when things get a bit too heated.
Co-op Friendly
Perfect For Game Nights
Despite being a 5v5 multiplayer game, League can feel lonely at times, as many players are focused on their LP or their own gameplay rather than working together towards the same goal. 2XKO looks to shake that up, introducing players to a more friendly-feeling game that is far more inviting for players who just want to jump in for some fun against their friends.
Players will be able to play against one another and test their skills, and even have some super fun couch co-op sessions to get everyone involved at the same time. This creates a much nicer community feel that focuses more on enjoying the game together, rather than grinding out win after win to climb the ladder.
Super Rich Lore
All The Story Minus The Grind
League has been around for a long time, and over the years, more stories have been added to the already rich lore that surrounds the actual game. There are long pages for each champion's background and even full-length books being released to tie the world to the characters on a much deeper level. But the reality is that the game couldn't be further from the stories.
2XKO won't be adding any major chapters to the stories of iconic characters like Jinx or Yasuo, but what it does do is allow players to take on the personas in a much more literal sense than in LoL. Playing as someone like Warwick on Summoner's Rift can feel like a slow build-up of power, but in 2XKO, players can fully immerse themselves in the power fantasy of a charged-up werewolf, and all the aggressive goodness that comes with it.
