After only a month since it debuted in theaters across the globe, one of 2025's biggest horror sequels, 28 Years Later, is reportedly coming to digital streaming, and its release date is only around the corner. This is a brilliant chance for those who didn't get to catch Danny Boyle's post-apocalyptic zombie movie in the cinema, and also a great reason to be able to hide behind your sofa when the scary bits get too much without judgment from movie-goers.

28 Years Later tells the harrowing story that transpired after the Rage virus escaped a medical research laboratory, in which a group of survivors try to make a life for themselves among the terrifying infected, with one group taking up life on an island in the hopes of maintaining a more "normal" and safer life. However, while heading out on a hunting trip to the mainland, father and son, Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Spike (Alfie Williams), are exposed to the horrors that lay in wait for them. 28 Years Later's YouTube trailer gained 60.2 million global views in its first 24 hours and later became the best horror ticket pre-seller of 2025. Now, as fans of the movie are still letting what they witnessed in the cinema sink in a month later, those who have been waiting for its digital release can breathe a sigh of relief.

28 Years Later Reportedly Gets a July Streaming Date

28 years later

According to When to Stream, 28 Years Later is reported to debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, July 29. However, at this time, the film’s studio, Sony Pictures Entertainment, has not officially announced or confirmed the release date, but if this is indeed true, for those eager to watch Boyle's impressive horror movie at home, this is certainly a big win, especially as the film only released on 20 June. This also hopefully means that a physical release isn't too far away either, since the film did pretty well, and seeing all of those infected up close and in 4K is sure to be an eye-opening experience (and no, we aren't just thinking about that naked zombie either).

Before 28 Years Later was released last month, it had sold more pre-sale tickets during its 24 hours of advanced ticket sales than other big horror films like Sinners, Final Destination Bloodlines, and Nosferatu, making the zombie film the best horror ticket pre-seller in 2025. Fast-forward a couple of weeks after the film was released in cinemas, 28 Years Later grossed $103 million in its first week, which includes $100 million worldwide and $50 million domestically.

Boyle's movie further reached an impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, who were delighted with the horror film, giving it a 93% score at the time. However, it has since seen a drop in its score, and that might likely be down to its very strange ending that left many fans wondering what was going on.

The Bone Temple, which is a sequel to 28 Years Later, is slated for release on 16 January 2026.
