The 24 Movie is finally happening after years of false starts. In July 2024, it was announced that the big screen adaptation was being developed by 20th Century Studios and Disney, but since then, updates have been hard to come by. However, no news is often good news in Hollywood and chances are, a lot of work is going on behind the scenes to coax Kiefer Sutherland into returning to the iconic role of Jack Bauer. In order to be a success, the 24 Movie will need an iconic villain to face off against Jack Bauer, and this doesn't necessarily need to be a new character, with the villainous Mandy still alive in the 24 universe.
Mia Kirshner only played Mandy in seven episodes of the 24 television series, but that didn't stop her from becoming one of the most memorable villains of all time. In fact, she is an OG villain after appearing in Jack Bauer's first outing back in 2001. Mandy was last seen in the fourth season, which aired in 2005, so it would be a long-awaited return if she made an appearance in the movie version over 20 years later.
The 24 Movie Could Still Not Happen For This Reason
Fans are excited that a 24 movie version is officially in the works, but this doesn't necessarily mean it will definitely happen.
Mandy Was One Of The Most Iconic Villains In the 24 Television Series
Mandy was a professional assassin who tried to kill David Palmer on two different occasions in the 24 television series. Despite her appearances being brief, she established herself as one of the best villains to ever go head-to-head with Jack Bauer. During Day One, Mandy was hired by Ira Gaines to obtain a press ID from a character called Martin Belkin, in order to gain easier access to Senator Palmer. She boarded a flight and sat next to Belkin, and began showing an interest in him. They ended up having sex, and she distracted him enough to steal his press ID, and parachuted out of the plane after setting off a bomb which memorably exploded on the plane, killing all the passengers.
Events Occur In Real Time
This event cemented Mandy as a force to be reckoned with, and after getting her money from Gaines, her work was pretty much done, and she went underground until she returned in a shocking twist at the end of Day Two. Mandy attended a press conference hosted by the now President Palmer, and shook his hand, and in the process, poisoned him with a biological weapon, before disappearing once again. It was a brief appearance, but further established Mandy as a really capable villain. Palmer survives the attack, and Mandy resurfaces for the final time in Day Four, now working with the main villain, Habib Marwan. However, after being caught by CTU, she manages to seal a deal for immunity from all her crimes in exchange for giving up Marwan's location. It's not known what Mandy has been up to since then, but fans would love to see her again.

As the preparation continues for the 24 Movie, the creative team will be searching for the perfect villain to go up against Jack Bauer. While it might seem like a new big villain is needed, with so many previous adversaries defeated by the ex CTU agent, Mandy is a ready-made villain who could square up against Bauer one final time. Bauer killed so many terrorists throughout the series, but Mandy was very much the one who got away. Many fans still wonder what happened to her character, and there is a chance she was left alive and free from prosecution so she could one day return in a future storyline. It never happened in the television series for whatever reason, but it now feels like the right time to put Mandy front and center in Jack Bauer's big screen adventure.
She was always a side villain in the series, but it would make sense to elevate her to main villain status in the 24 Movie and give the audience a satisfying conclusion to her story. 24: Live Another Day brought back the iconic villain, Cheng Zhi, and his long awaited showdown with Jack Bauer was one of the highlights of the limited series. A return for Mandy in the 24 Movie could be just as memorable, and would keep a classic franchise tradition alive, and also act as a fitting tribute to the origins of the series.
