2026 has barely started, and already, fans have been treated to a good deal of fantastic anime. Obviously, they knew what titles were coming out in the first month but were still blown away by the quality. However, the sheer number of titles makes it difficult to watch every single one of them.
The Biggest Anime Of 2026 (So Far)
2026 is almost here, and the upcoming year should be PACKED with both massive anime sequels and newcomers. Let's go through its biggest anime.
Most anime fans predicted that MAPPA's Jujutsu Kaisen would be at the top of ratings, especially since it is adapting the Culling Game arc. However, there is another anime that has managed to supplant Jujutsu Kaisen by scoring an impressive 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and it is none other than Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.

As previously stated, Frieren Season 1 has managed to score a rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, a well-known aggregate website. The ratings indicate that Frieren's second season has been hugely popular among the critics. What's surprising is that it has eclipsed Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, Oshi no Ko Season 3, and the new Fate anime. In addition to the perfect critic score, Frieren has also received a 95% rating from viewers, proving once again that the audience loves the series.

So far, the new season has released four episodes, and all of them have been incredible. A new character called the Hero of the South was also revealed, who had single-handedly killed three of the Sages of Destruction, which significantly weakened the Demon King's forces. Additionally, Fern and Stark's romance also seems to be one of the main highlights of the new season. The two have been fighting like a married couple since the beginning, but until now, there had been no indication that the romance was going to blossom. In Frieren Season 2 Episode 3, Stark jokingly asked Fern out on a date. He was confident that Fern would reject the offer, so he was mortified when she said yes. In the subsequent episode, the two finally went out and had a good time.
Towards the end of the episode, Frieren, Fern, and Stark entered the Northern Plateau. Due to Fern being a first-class mage, they were allowed to pass the checkpoint. Shortly afterward, they were attacked by strong monsters. The trio spent three days and nights fighting and moving from place to place before finally arriving at an inn. The owner offered them a room but asked them to exterminate a monster who had been terrorizing people in exchange. The three agreed, but they weren't expecting a major challenge. The monster looked comfortable dealing with two powerful mages and a dangerous front-liner. In fact, the trio had to act as a team after a very long time to beat it. Based on the skirmishes that they have had, it's safe to say that the Northern Plateau will thoroughly test the skills of the three heroes.
Fans Are Upset With The Episode Count
Before the new season had even started, some fans had their doubts and other concerns. Most of them were aimed at a meager episode count. They couldn't believe that Frieren Season 2 would only have ten episodes, which is 18 fewer than the first. However, Madhouse was likely forced to stick to a shorter episode count, as the studio couldn't risk getting too close to the manga. As fans may know, the Frieren manga is on indefinite hiatus, and it hasn't released a new chapter in months. If the anime released too many episodes, it would catch up to the manga, which would inevitably cause the third season to be delayed.
Jujutsu Kaisen Isn't Too Far Behind Frieren
While Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 falls behind Frieren, that doesn't mean it's of inferior quality. In fact, one could easily make a case for JJK Season 3 being better than the previous two combined. The new installment covers the much-awaited Culling Game arc, which is filled with enthralling fights and equally amazing storytelling. It is also worth mentioning that the current season of the anime will only have 12 episodes, as MAPPA has decided to split it into two parts. Currently, the first part has aired six episodes already, which have all been well received by the audience.

So far, the anime has been focused on laying the groundwork before Itadori Yuji and the rest of the heroes head towards the colonies to participate in the Culling Game. Tengen shared a ton of information with Itadori and his friends on the condition that two people remain with him. Ultimately, Choso and Tsukumo decided to stay behind while the rest went about their respective missions.
The Preparation For the Culling Game Is Complete
First, it was Maki's turn to head to the Zenin clan treasury to find tools that would help her in the competition. Upon her arrival, she was attacked by her father and left to die inside the treasury along with Mai. Ultimately, Mai decided to sacrifice herself to erase all manner of cursed energy from Maki, which allowed the latter's Heavenly Restriction: Physically Gifted to work properly. As a result, Maki was able to annihilate most of her clan members, including Ogi and Naoya. After sorting things out, Maki left.

While Maki was busy with the Zenin clan, Itadori and Megumi headed to the Gachinko Fight Club to recruit Kinji Hakari. They were to convince Hakari, especially after Yuta mentioned that the former was stronger than him. In order to reach Kinji Hakari, Itadori had to put on a show. While he did reach Hakari, his senior soon found out about the connection to Jujutsu High. After punching Itadori multiple times, Hakari agreed to help.
The Culling Game Will Decide The Fate Of Humanity
Fans who have watched all episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 already know that the Culling Game is Kenjaku's master plan of forcibly evolving humans. So, it is up to Itadori Yuji and his friends to stop him. They have already gathered allies, but they still need to participate in the Culling Game to come up with a way to prevent Kenjaku from succeeding.
Additionally, the heroes have to save Tsukimi from a cruel fate. If she is forced to enter, then her life is more or less over. Aside from her, Gojo Satoru's fate also hangs in the balance. Since he is inside the Prison Realm, the sorcerers are missing a major ally. So, they have to free him at all costs. Presently, the only way to do so is by convincing Angel to use her cursed technique. Whether or not she agrees to help them out is a different question entirely, but it should be confirmed in the coming episodes.
