This post contains spoilers for Lord of Mysteries.
2025 has been a phenomenal year for anime fans. They have been treated to one glorious project after another. At the beginning of the year, Solo Leveling and The Apothecary Diaries stole the limelight with their immense stories.
As the year passed, other amazing titles were released that were just as good, if not better, than the other two. With new titles being released regularly, it has become increasingly difficult to pick a series that will be the frontrunner for the Anime of the Year award. However, there is one strong contender that stands the best chance at winning.

Lord of the Mysteries Season 2 Has Already Been Confirmed
Lord of Mysteries Season 2 Will Be Even Better
- Lord of Mysteries Season 2 has been announced
- Lord of Mysteries can be even better than Solo Leveling
Lord of the Mysteries aired as part of Crunchyroll's Fall 2025 lineup. It is based on the web novel of the same name, which is written by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving. The web novel is highly rated within the community. In fact, it has a rating of 9.13 on MyAnimeList, making it one of the best in its category. The Lord of Mysteries anime adaptation was handled by B.CMay Pictures.
Since it's not a familiar name within the anime industry, some fans had their apprehension regarding the approach. However, their worries were unfounded, as the studio knocked it out of the park with a stellar adaptation that would put the best studios to shame. Everything from the visuals to the action scenes was phenomenal, which made it almost impossible for the audience to take their eyes off the screen.
Due to the overwhelming reception, Lord of Mysteries has been renewed for a second season. So, fans no longer have to worry about if their favorite anime series is going to return in the future. The series shared a roadmap in which it was confirmed that the Lord of Mysteries anime would have a total of six seasons and a movie at the very end. It's quite clear that the studio has big plans for the anime, and it has been impressed with the reception.
Lord of Mysteries Has Higher Rating Than Solo Leveling
Lord of Mysteries Has A Lot Of Potential
Lord of Mysteries' first season has managed to beat Solo Leveling Season 2 in the MyAnimeList ratings. The latter has a score of 8.64, while Lord of Mysteries has scored 8.65. However, it must be clarified that Solo Leveling has been rated by more than 420,000 users. On the other hand, Lord of Mysteries has been reviewed by just 40,754 users. The discrepancy in the number of users is astounding, and the lack of a Japanese dub is a major reason behind the low figure.
A huge portion of anime fans are accustomed to watching titles with Japanese audio, but Lord of Mysteries debuted with Chinese audio. Things got worse because of the inaccurate subtitles on the Crunchyroll website. The streaming platform did fix the issue, but only after a few episodes had been released.
Another reason for the underwhelming numbers was Crunchyroll's lack of advertising. Some fans believe that Crunchyroll should have done a better job at promoting the series. While it may be debatable, there is no denying that Crunchyroll's marketing team did an underwhelming job. Hopefully, there will be more promotional material for the subsequent seasons.
While Lord of Mysteries struggled to reach a wider audience, Solo Leveling encountered no such problem. Aniplex's hit anime has gained the attention of fans across the world. In fact, Solo Leveling has broken countless Crunchyroll records in a short span of time. Currently, fans are waiting for news regarding the third season of the anime. There was no announcement after Season 2 concluded, which disappointed a lot of fans, as they were expecting an immediate update. At the time of writing, there is no concrete news regarding the third season, but that could change in the coming months. Aniplex and A-1 Pictures know that Solo Leveling is a gold mine, which is why they will want to build on its current popularity.
