Summary

  • Sega confirmed that two new Persona games are set to release in 2024.
  • One of them has previously been announced in the form of Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the third numbered entry in the franchise, which releases February 2, 2024.
  • Sega's statement substantiates one recent leak claiming that a party-based Persona spin-off code-named "Asa" is coming in Q3 2024.

Two new Persona games are set to release in 2024, a senior Sega official has confirmed. The resulting suggestion that 2024 will be a big year for the series' fandom arrived mere days ahead of the much-anticipated release of the critically acclaimed Persona 5 Tactica.

The last mainline installment in the long-running franchise launched in 2019, when Sega put out Persona 5 Royal, an enhanced edition of its 2016 hit. Since then, the Japanese gaming giant released Persona 5 Strikers, while also confirming that Persona 6 is in development.

The November 17 launch of Persona 5 Tactica is now confirmed to be followed by two additional entries in the franchise, according to Sega Chief Operating Officer Shuji Utsumi. In a recent interview with CNBC, the executive revealed that both of those upcoming Persona games will release in 2024. And while he didn't elaborate on the matter, there's no doubt that one of those titles is the remake of the third main installment in the series, which was announced back in June. As a reminder, Persona 3 Reload was already treated to a release date, with Atlus and Sega confirming that the remake will reach PC, consoles, and Xbox Game Pass on February 2, 2024.

As for the other Persona game planned to hit the market next year, that's likely to be the rumored party-based spin-off code-named "Asa." The project in question has already been the subject of several reports over the last few months, with its existence originally leaking back in June. Most recently, well-known Atlus insider Midori has taken to social media to claim that Asa is on course to launch in 2024, while also reiterating some past reports that the Persona 6 release date slipped into 2025.

Additionally, Midori believes that the Persona 5: The Phantom X mobile spin-off is set to hit the market in 2024, as well. Assuming their insight proves accurate, that would mean Sega will actually debut three Persona games over the next 13 months. However, since The Phantom X is an externally developed project whose beta already started in China earlier this year, Sega might not be counting it among its upcoming Persona games any longer, which could explain why Utsumi said that only two new titles are coming in 2024.

As for Asa, there is currently no information about its target platforms, although Atlus's recent track record with the Persona franchise suggests that the rumored spin-off will debut on both PC and consoles from day one. Midori previously reported that the game has a tentative release window of Q3 2024.

Persona is an RPG franchise developed and published by Atlus, spun off from its larger Megami Tensei franchise. Originally releasing in 1996 under the name Revelations: Persona, the series typically follows a core group of High School students who have access to Personas, physical manifestations of a person's psyche and subconscious, to do battle in combat. Newer games in the franchise, starting with Persona 3, have introduced the idea of Social Links, which lets players further strengthen and evolve Personas based on time spent with their owners outside of dungeons.
